Samsung PS50Q7HDX (2006) and PS3 over HDMI, DNIE disabled.
I just downloaded the AVS HD 709 calibration disc and i was curious to test out the 'Limited' vs 'Full' RGB option on the PS3... I noticed that along with that option when doing the calibration, you also have to set the BD/DVD output mode accordingly or else it will be YCbCr.
When i calibrated the display on Limited RGB, everything looks washed out and blacks look grainy. So this applies to the XMB and games only. But when you play a BD/DVD it will display in YCbCr and be really dark unless you make adjustments.
When i calibrated the display on Full RGB, everything looks a lot better. blacker blacks and whiter whites. also better gradients. With this setting everything - XMB, Games, BD/DVD will all be calibrated the same since Full RGB and YCbCr output are practically the same.
So... does that mean i should stick to Full RGB? it just seems like the answer is so obvious for me, despite that mostly everything i've read is just the opposite. I mean, i just cant get a nice looking picture with Limited RGB at all... and here i am reading how it is the way to go, well not for me!
By the way, i also have a newer Samsung PS50B550 (2009)... it cannot display Full RGB, but it does show the full black and white scale when set to YCbCr with Super White on... so i guess for the sake of having only one display configuration, set everything to Limited RGB... since you would have to have a seperate configuration for YCbCr output.
