Bluray and HD-DVD playback possible in Linux

Thread Starter
For a while now its been possible to do Bluray "playback" in Linux by ripping the discs and playing them from the harddisk.
Now it seems it maybe possible to play Blurays straight from the disc.

It looks like we might have something really useable in 3-6 months or so.

My problem is though, most movies released on BD so far are crap, and the few good ones I have already on DVD (I wouldn't buy them again just for the better picture).

So currently I'm not too fussed about BD, maybe in a few years the choice of movies will be better.

It appears BD+ removal may now be possible in Linux with DVDfab under Wine-

The current version 6205 appears to have the "Remove BD+" option enabled!

30 day free trial for those with BluRay drives to try it- I don't own any BluRay drives...

Combined with the mplayer updates, all BluRay movies with all audio codecs could now be a done deal on Linux- at least if you rip first (menus and BDLive crap nothwithstanding)

Where do you see that? I can't find it mentioned.

I am running it now on some DVD's, and there is a "Remove BD+" option in the setup dialog.

A month or so ago (early Oct 2009) that option was grayed out.

In the September 4, 2009 notes:

DVDFab "Blu-ray to Blu-ray":

* New: AACS MKB14 is fully supported now. Note: since AACS MKB14 issue, BD+ support was delayed and will be available in September (2009)

However, the notes don't mention when/if BD+ capability was actually "turned on". Looks like it is in the menus.

Anyone with a BD-ROM drive try DVDfab 6205 on Wine for BD+ removal capability yet?
