Question sending Dolby TrueHD & DTS-HD MA over analog?

Just a quick question, I have a Pioneer (1014) which has 7.1 but no HDMI. If I had a BR player which did the decoding could I get those tracks to play or I am stuck with the lossy DD 5.1 soundtrack?

If you have multi-channel analog inputs, yes.

You could also stick with the high quality DD and DTS tracks you can get from Blu-ray discs, which are arguably very close to lossless in terms of what your ears could detect.

Yes..
You can use the 7.1 analog inputs for the Pioneer AVR with a direct connection from the Blu-ray player for its 7.1 analog outputs.

However...
Note that through the 7.1 analog inputs of the Pioneer AVR you will have no MAAC or Bass Manager functions..

Just my $0.01...

The OP did not identify his Blu-Ray player. Not all Blu-Ray players have 7.1 analog outputs. Many only have 2 channel outputs. In any case, according to this

http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/products/a...4-S/index.html

even though it has 7.1 channels, the 1014 only has 5.1 channel analog inputs. Maybe the U.S. version is different. Maybe not. If not, then the OP is left with lossy DD and DTS.

Ah, thanks for the info Guys. I am eyeing the Elite VSX-23TXH and the JVC XVBP1. I was going to get a PS3 slim but I cannot justify the cost when I have a 360 already and no more time for games.
