Directv HR-22 In living room and second TV in bed room

Not sure if this the right place for this question, sorry if it is not

I have a DTV HR22 in my living room connected with HDMI to my SC-27 receiver then HDMI out to my TV. I would like to watch the same DTV in my bed room.

Can it be done? How?

I dont want to rent another HD box for our bed room. They will not be watched at the same time. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Are you trying to get SD or HD to the second set?

SD - Use an RF modulator to convert the composite/s-video out to an RF feed and pass it via RG-6 or the existing coax in the house if possible. If you're in range you can use an RF remote to control the HR22 from the bedroom also.

HD - Would require running component cables and audio (5 cables total) to the bedroom.

Yeah that makes things more difficult, any idea how long of a run you'd need from the HR22 to the other TV?

30' tops.

Do they have IR blasters that can be put in the cable "run"?

I'd say at 30 feet, give this a try if you have some way of routing it - http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

You can get wireless IR Repeaters also.

An IR system is an unnecessary expense with the D* box you currently have. Take a look at the controller, specifically the top left portion, if you have a 5 digit code such as RC64R then you are set.

The R at the end indicates that it is a RF remote. You will need to set the D* box to RF and set up the controller.

To do this:

Hit menu on the controller.
Select Parental,Fav's & Setup.
Select System Setup.
Select Remote Control.
Select IR/RF Setup.
Change the Remote Type from IR to RF and select Continue.
Follow the on-screen prompts and you will be set.

The easiest way to test if the controller will work from the distance you need, have your spouse in the room with the receiver and go into the other room and start pressing buttons. If it works then you only have to worry about running some kind of video cables.

If you have an HDMI connection on your bedroom's TV, it might be easier to try to run the HDMI cable to the bedroom and use component in your living room. It would just be less wiring you'd have to run. HDMI will work at 30 feet without problems, and if you get the cable on line it should not be very expensive. I don't believe there is a significant or noticeable difference in picture quality using component versus HDMI, though some might differ.

And if you want an extra remote for the other room, they're available on ebay or from directv.com

However, he won't be able to use one remote for both the D* controls and the TV controls, correct? If the D* remote is in RF mode, it won't be able to send out IR volume controls to the TV, or will it?

It sends RF to the D* box and IR to other devices (television, audio receiver, etc.).

Correct.

A second controller is not a must have if the TV's are the same brand. Having two would be less of a hassle of course.

Do I have any other options?

I use a Nevo q50 with IR for the D* in the living room. If I switch it to RF for my bed room then my Q50 will not work in the living room (???) Will it do both? or can I run some type of Ir blaster for the other remote from the bed room to the living room?

No. Maybe someday -- this is a wishlist item on dbstalk.

I have an HR20-700 connected via HDMI to a TV in my living room and connected by a 50' component + red/white audio cable from Monoprice to a TV in my bedroom. The HR20 is set to RF mode, and I use two DirecTV remotes, set for the two respective TVs, one in the bedroom. It works fine.
