how do i test if my speakers are dead of if it's my tuner?

I have a Denon DRA-295 tuner that was running a bunch of speakers at my gym. The speakers were there when we moved in (thank you CVS!) so we just plugged in a tuner and off we had sound.

Now I have no sound. I'm not sure if the speakers went or the tuner. The tuner turns on, it looks like it always did...but I have have nothing. How do I test whether it is the speakers that I need to replace or the tuner.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The DRA-295 is actually a receiver, not just a tuner.

There are two speaker buttons on the front, Speaker A and Speaker B. Make sure those buttons are selected, specifically speaker A. It is possible someone accidently push them off. Also check in back to make sure the speaker wires are connected.

If the speaker selector is on and still no sound, try plugging in a pair of headphones. If no sound then perhaps the receiver is broken. Maybe you can hook up a CD player and try that also.

You can test the speakers and the connection to the speakers by touching the speaker wire leads across a 9V battery for each channel. At the very least this will isolate the problem between the receiver or the connection/speakers.

Thanks for the advice...I'll let you know how it works out!

Duh, I can't believe I didn't plug in a pair of headphones!

This may not necessarily help since usually the receiver has separate amps for the headphones and for the speakers. One can be fuxored while the other still working.
