+1 on shooting down th UAV's. Its especially easy with any of the launchers, even the first one they start you with.

I'm loving the whole Ninja/Stealth approach. Last night my KDR jumped up from .46 to .54 using a set up similar to the one posted first by Kess. It would have been higher but I'm trying to get good with the iron sights.

TAR-21(bigger clip than SCAR and better fire rate, less kickback) w/ Stinger
perks: Bling/Coldblooded/Ninja
Attachments: Silencer and heart beat sensor
Equipment: claymores

No more getting owned by harriers and choppers and the stinger takes them out in one or two shots. BTW, I noticed sometimes the Harrier will deploy chafes to avoid my stinger. Is this user controlled, random or did I just imagine it?

You can shoot down the UAVs????? Wow, I didn't know you could do that. Are they marked on the radar, or do you just have to look for them in the sky? And how many rocket shots do they take? I want the cold-blooded pro perk real bad!

Had a lot of success with this set-up last night as well, imjenk. Especially after switching to the TAR-21. I also had A LOT of success with the Scavenger Perk, and you might wanna try it out, as well. Because I find that the nature of the game is mostly close to medium distance shots, it's so easy to keep walking over people you kill and replenishing your ammo. I almost never ran out of ammo with the TAR last night. Just kept firing and walking over dead bodies. Pretty sweet.
I don't think FMJ would help, as this only boosts your damage when shooting through walls and other objects. The perk that really does the job is Stopping Power Pro.

Yup. Look up in the sky and you'll see them flying around (you'll see their shadows a lot when running around). I never fire rockets at them, but it takes about a clip or less from the SCAR.

My bad, that's right it's stopping power pro that has increased damage to vehicles!
Does stopping power increase EVERY bullet's strength, or just bullets that go thru walls and cover??

I'm a little confused.

Every bullet.

FMJ is a weapon perk that allows for bullet penetration in walls, similar to deep impact from COD4.
Gotcha. Thanks.

I finally moved away from that perk just to start unlocking some others. The way you guys are hyping up the TAR, I might have to give that a try after unlocking the SCAR heart-rate attachment.

And I also had no clue that you can take out UAVs. I'm gonna have to pick and choose my moments for that though. It's tough to last more than a few moments after giving yourself away on enemy radar by firing.

It's actually very easy to take out UAVs. I had no idea you could take them out either, but after about 2 hours playing, racked up 27/40 enemy kill-streak rewards for the Cold-Blooded Pro perk. It's 1 shot with the Stinger. Don't really have to worry about giving yourself away on the radar. One thing about having mostly large maps like these, it makes it very simple to take such things out, as there's plenty of places for you to hide out.

On the flip side, speaking of hiding out, I'm getting absolutely brutalized online today. Going about 12-80 the past 5 games. Can't kill anyone. Instant deaths, people in windows just waiting for me to walk by. Even when I know they're there, I can't even get a shot away. Wow, this game really steps up the difficulty from the last one. The maps are huge, and there's just so many places to have to watch out for. It's wearing me down!

LMG+Stopping Power Pro will bring down a UAV like a hot knife thru butter. I don't like to waste stingers or javelins on UAV since you may end up needing them for use against enemy air support.

Then again, I've stopped shooting them down for the most part since I use cold blooded pro anyway, and it can be useful to have them up there for those enemies who depend on it too much. Also with cold blooded pro, I haven't been killed by a pavelow, harrier, AC130 or chopper gunner in days now. The only reason I still get clipped by a predator once in awhile is because my teammates won't get away from me. I also love that they put cold blooded and stopping power in the same perk class. Now snipers either have to learn to shoot well... or use stopping power and leave themselves exposed. It's fun as heck picking off snipers laying in the grass using the thermal scope. As far as getting the cold blooded pro version, its just luck...you need 40 killstreak stops/kills so it's just a crapshoot. Took me a couple days. Just keep it as your perk and you'll get the pro version eventually. The pro version is that final touch for being able to be stealthy. I've had enemies looking right at me in the weeds but they're not SURE you're there...while they're looking at you(or for you), you jump out and stab them.
I had a few people walk right past me while I was crouching and I'm like WTF and shot them in the back. Then I figured out they were probably looking more at the heart beat sensor and UAV than whats directly in front of them. Cold blooded ninja's rule!
though i was def one to always use marytdom in cod 4...i'm definately happy they made it nothing more than a death streak in this game. It really was one of the cheapest ways to get kills.
Using jug was cheap as well, glad they got rid of it but there are some things in the game that make you scratch your head.

heartbeat sensor? oh great so they know where i am once they get close every single time

double guns? this is just stupid and very n00bish if you ask me.

claymores? only 1? on top of that i had this dude JUMP OVER the claymore and it didnt even go off. sometimes using it is just a complete waste.

no war game mode?

dont get me wrong they added a lot dope features but some of this sh!t is just ridiculous.

anyway right now im using the ACR which is pretty badass K/D 1.86

claymores? only 1? on top of that i had this dude JUMP OVER the claymore and it didnt even go off. sometimes using it is just a complete waste. Again, encourages less camping because people would just camp somewhere and use claymores for protection. You can still get more claymores with scavenger.

no war game mode? This mode was only in World at War. It was ok, but the games that tied were ridiculous and a waste of time.

The beauty of this game is that many guns are effective if you get good with them and adjust your tactics accordingly. I find myself using the Scar, Tar, Vector, sniper, and the P90. They are all kick ars guns once upgraded, and if you are a good aim they are all capable of long range kills. The P90 is the least good at this, but does well with mid range and in. The Vector is a sweet gun. Get that thing tricked out and tell me it isn't the perfect blend of a Scar and a P90!!!! The Vector will alomost match a P90 close in and about matches the Scar for long shots. But it is the most balanced gun I have used so far.

One match I needed two kills to win, and I saw two other players engaging at close range....I lobbed a semtex at them and it stuck to one......needless to say....game over! I wish I had that one on tape!
Also, success is about movement and lines of sight. The more times you can see enemies the more chances you have to get kills. Pulling the trigger is not what gets kills, it is aquiring targets. You have to move and scan...and keep all your sight lines checked ferquently. It helps to turn and peek behind you as you are running in a direction, as you will often spot a player that way. Then you haveto just put the time in to know the boards, and know areas that give you a fighting advantage (line of sight advantage). This game is amazing, and truly addictive. I want to get many guns maxed out....lots of fun.

I still can't figure out IW's method of assigning players to teams in Mercenary Team Deathmatch. I've played several times where the highest ranked player on one team was lower than the lowest ranked player on another team. So it's obviously not just based on ranking or score.

Also, there have been a few matches where teams have been lopsided in terms of numbers. One games last night started with 9 players in the lobby. Three were assigned to one team and six to another. Didn't make any sense at all considering this was Merc.

Other than that, I've fallen apart the last few days. I've seen my k/d fall from above 1.5 to below 1.2. It's like everyone's reaction time has improved while mine has slowed. I think I'll blame it on my network connection for now . Oh, and I absolutely hate Derailed.

Tell me about it. I had a very bad streak of about 20-30 games last night...and finished with a positive KDR only once or twice! I don't know what in the world is going on, but I just can't get unanswered kills now. Or many kills at all, to be honest. It's like everyone's suddenly just got very very good. And it seems like there's someone in every window, in every hiding spot, and I just can't keep track of them all. And in watching my death replays, everyone is targeting me as if I'm walking around with a flare on my back. The millisecond I turn a corner....bam, someone picks me off. The minute I look out a window....bam, dead again. Over and over. And even when I do finally get a kill, 99% of the time, someone else will pick me off right away. Maybe it's just been a very bad streak of games, but I'm beginning to take it personally! Haha.

I'm thinking maybe I should try the "game mode" option on my TV. Does anyone else use this feature? And how much does it actually speed up response times? Would I even notice? It seems like I have an acurate response time now, but maybe I'm just used to being slow!

I'm using game mode on my Panny Plasma, but I've never tried any other mode to notice a difference. I can't really blame my poor play on anything other than myself. My son is still getting 20-30 kills per game and maintaining a decent k/d ratio.

Funny, I have been getting my a$$ handed to me a lot lately too. I have noticed I have been playing against quite a few clans which may explain things. On a weapons note, I have been loving the FNAL. I am a few penetration kills away from getting extended clips. The FNAL has good pop and very accurate at distance. I don't know how many times I have squared away against somebody with a full auto rifle at distance and 2 out of 3 shots from them sail past me, where with me, I can land 3 straight due to the controled nature of the semi auto.

Back to playing against the strong teams lately, I have found that I can stay alive longer by building up a custom class geared for speed. I use "lightweight pro" and "marathon pro". The speed set up allows me to move out of buildings a hell of a lot quicker causing the window campers to miss.

I actually built one of my classes just around this very fact.

As soon as the teams are paired up, you can see if you're in for one of those lopsided games.

So I designed a class with the coldblooded perk, silencer, jammer, etc., since I know it'll be one of those games where, without it, I'm going to be getting chased around the map the entire time by enemies that can see me via UAV while it's hailing predator missles while a harrier parks over the center of the map while 3 enemy care packages are dropping at the same time.

It's still hard not to be part of the slaughter, but it definitely helps. The enemies, while better than me, definitely get more aggresive in those matches - so I can usually enough 'in-the-back' kills to walk out of the match with a K/D near 1.

Exactly the same situation for me...not doing nearly as well as I should be or think I should be, oh well.

I haven't logged much MP time yet (been playing the Spe-Ops and finishing the SP mostly) but I too seem to be a blinking beacon for bullets! I'm not getting as many kills (like I use to get in the past), getting picked-off much more frequently and a bit of frustration are my experiences so far...hopefully more time spent playing and thus gaining a better knowledge of the maps will help bridge the gap...then again maybe I just have to face facts; I now seem to have the timing/speed of my old gramp's.

My 40" Toshiba (in the bedroom) has "Game Mode"...but to be quite honest I don't seem much of an improvement when utilized. I do about 30% of my gaming up there and have used the "GM" about half of that time. Obviously each set/manufacture will have varying results, mine have been less than stellar...IMO.
I would say a lot of it has to do with people are now learning the maps and which guns work best for them. What game types are you guys playing?

For me, I find my K/D suffers when I play objective games, mainly because I kamikaze towards them whenever we're trying to obtain or defend.

If you're getting eaten up in objective games, try going back to team deathmatch. I've had a lot of success in Ground War - haven't really experienced any lag playing other then when a host leaves. This at least mixes up TD and Domination, and with more players battling it out, there are more chances for kills if you play it safe.

I also tried Capture the Flag the other day and loved it. It's objective based, but since there are only two points, you can go on the offensive or play the role of the defender. Defending is an easy way to get you K/D back on track and help out the team.

I think, or I'm hoping, that's it's just a matter of getting better used to the maps. You guys would remember Chinatown, and of all the older maps, that was my least favourite as there were just so many places and levels of view to have to watch out for. Knee Deep from World at War, from one of the WAW map packs was similarly chaotic and difficult for me. Both were smaller than most of these new maps, however, and I eventually got ok at them, if I was very careful. But when it comes to guys hiding out and springing out of nowhere, I'm just not quick enough. Most of the the new MW2 maps are like this...at least seem that way to me so far. I do really love the airport level, as it's basically a big circle with limited hiding spots, that don't really wind too far from the edges. Guys pretty much play this map COD4 style, just soldiering forward.

Again, I whine now, but anytime I string 5 good games together, I feel like a hero again.

Anyone go out of their way to get the Cold Blooded Pro perk? Basically all you have to do is shoot down enemy UAV planes and helicopters while using Cold Blooded. I think you might get speciall bonus points, because I was at 5, took down one helicopter, and jumped to 17 points. It was likely just a glitch, but I was pretty happy about it. In any case, I'm not entirely sure Cold Blooded Pro actually does anything. It's supposed to remove your enemies' red cross hairs when they target you....but when I watch my death replays, the enemies still have cross-hairs on me. It also removes my name from their screen, but I'm not sure if any of that is actually helping me. Maybe I'm missing something. Anyone else having success with this pro perk?

I think this might be your answer. Start sticking to the perimeters on the maps you're not that successful on. The perimeters have less windows and corners to deal with, and I find a lot of people running into the middle of the maps are the ones that are getting smoked. You can kill these guys from the perimeters.

Some good matches out there. Best ones are wins by a Kill or two. Usually those games each team has one member that really dragged them down with a lot of deaths
then u get to the lobby and hear that person get chewed out jahaha

since other thread is locked, I'll state one last time why I think Strategies have to change for this game, and it's due to the fact you can't see a bloody thing clearly.

As for perks, unlocked all but 2. Scavenger one was alost laughable
post #58 of 2153
I've yet to use it, but doesn't Scavenger allow you to pick up the ammo you need regardless of what the gun is on the ground?

I'm always running out of ammo in the SCAR, so I thought if I equipped Scavenger and the person I killed was using an M4, that I would pick up SCAR ammo instead. Am I correct on this? Was going to give it a shot tonight.

Yeah, with Scavenger you pick up ammo from any fallen soldier (your side or theirs) and it will replenish your weapon, regardless of what weapon you're getting ammo from. Now, I think how much you pick up is determined by the number of rounds the dead soldier has, but I'm not sure about that...I kinda seem to think the amount of bullets I get varies. But then that wouldn't explain how I always get a rocket for the launcher every time I walk over a fallen soldier.

Scavenger Pro is pretty good, as it works like bandoleer (sp?) in extending the size of your clip, which can be very helpful if you tend to do a lot of spraying and praying like me.
