I'm pretty clueless to home audio setups. My home theater was super easy because it's all HDMI, plug everything into the receiver, then run that to the TV.
I'm building a backyard theater for next year, but want to do it pretty inexpensively so I'm buying used stuff locally through classifieds. I have an Onkyo home theater system (HT-S780 just the receiver is the HT-R530) and just bought an Epson Powerlite projector. I connected everything in the garage today to see how it all goes together using a really crappy and cheap DVD player. The connections were really easy because my DVD player has Svideo out for the projector, and had a separate RCA type audio out for each channel of the surround sound system. The problem is the DVD player kept binding up like the DVD was scratched on graphic intensive scenes. So I'm looking around at new DVD players--it looks like most have different audio out setups now (no separate jacks for each channel).
The Onkyo site isn't working for me right now to download the manual and I can't find a picture online of the back of the receiver to show you the connection options, but wondering if anyone can offer advice for getting the sound out of a newer DVD player into my receiver and getting the 5.1 surround?
Thanks
Mike
