4:4 Pulldown vs. 2:2 Pulldown - similar results?

Hello fellow avs'ers.
I was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this for me. I just recently sold my Epson 6500UB and am looking at getting either the Mits HC6800 or the Epson 8500UB. I generally used the 4:4 pulldown on the 6500UB for movies which of course the HC6800 doesn't do. Would the 2:2 pulldown on the HC6800 give essentially the same results? I have no way of seeing a Mits in action where I live so any help would be greatly appreciated. Perhaps someone out there was able to compare a 6500UB to an older Mits HC6500/HC5500 at some point in the last year.
Thanks so much.

Sorry for the probably stupid question and for not searching for the answer but what is 4:4 and 2:2 pull down??
Thanks!

It should be the same, the image is displayed for 41.7ms either way, it's only a question of if the panel gets signaled 2 or 4 times to draw the frame.

There is absolutely no difference between the two. It refers to the amount of frames you have to duplicate to get to the projectors native refresh rate. For 24fps content like blu-ray, each frame has to be duplicated 4 times for a projector running at 96hz and 2 times for a projector running at 48hz. Even though the frames get duplicated a different amount, each frame is displayed for the exact same amount of time, either 4/96th of a second or 2/48th of a second. When you simply them they both break down to 1/24th of a second.

Creative frame interpolation is a different beast and is different than pulldown numbers. The soap opera effect and other problems associated with CFI (and sadly 120hz tvs) are caused solely by CFI and not the faster refresh rate.

Great thanks! I did use the CFI with the 6500UB at times and liked it very much. I was so-so about it for movies and pretty much always used the 4:4 pulldown. It somehow always seemed more natural and film-like this way. I just didn't know if there was a visual difference between 2:2 and 4:4. Of course, for animation and documentaries the CFI is great, and I would miss it for that but I'm kinda leaning towards the HC6800 for the sharpness. Wish I could get both. What to get.....
