Just got back ourselves. 3D IMAX at Bridgeport is fantastic! Nice and bright clear pictures...crisp sound...what a concept these days right?
This will be the only movie I see in IMAX this year other than 'MI:4'. And it is one of only two 3D movies I've seen this year (the other being 'Thor' because it was free).
This is definitely a good companion to the first movie. I'll always like the first better if only because it was an intro-movie and those are usually a little more awe-inspiring (i.e. 'Batman Begins'). While I agree this movie could have been better/tighter in spots...the irritating moments were not there for me. The complaints of the 2nd film won't be nearly as common/founded in this film by any means.
Having seen only a few films in 3D, I'll still hold 'Avatar' as the standard and slight notch above this in terms of the 3D. But, I'll give Bay credit for using the 3D as a tool to provide depth/immersion into the action instead of a gimmick. I don't recall any "coming at you" moments in this for the sake of some goofy 3D move. Much like 'Avatar', this film was made to immerse you without distracting you. As posted prior, I definitely didn't think about the 3D while watching it (except for those stinking glasses).
This was a fun movie and had some good twists (as much as can be expected for this type of movie). They could have easily gone 'Empire Strikes Back' dark in a few places though for sure...maybe next time
