See what's coming to the Roku: http://www.roku.com/roku-channel-store

Tomorrow should be the day the new FW launches that enables these new channels from the chatter I'm hearing in the Roku forums.

save some time and register now -- in order to add channels to your roku you will need to sign up with them directly and create a free account. Just did it - it's fast - email address, create new user name, create password and you're all set. Looks interesting...

As of late yesterday they made the new firmware available to anyone who wished to do a manual update (the automatic updates will be rolled out gradually to all customers over a two week period).

From a forum post over at the Roku forums, here's how to do it:

Happy to report that the Roku Channel Store upgrade is now available for download. Detailed directions can be found below.

The manual update is available for all models except the Roku SD Player. The SD Player will receive the Channel Store update via an automatic update by mid-December.

Follow these five easy steps:
1. From the Roku home screen, select the “Settings” icon.
2. Select the “Player Info” icon within “Settings.”
3. Select “Check for Update.”
4. Select “Yes” on the confirmation dialog box to confirm that you want to update your player. Please note there is a possibility that the Roku player will state it has the most up to date software already installed. If you receive this notification, please immediately try updating again and it will begin the update process.
5. Once you see a dialog box indicating your player has been updated, select “OK” to restart your Roku player and finish the update.

After the player restarts, click on the Roku Channel Store icon and follow the instructions to link your Roku player to a Roku account. After restart you will see just the 'Settings' icon on your screen. Don't worry, it may take up to one minute for the Channel Store and other icons to appear.

We hope you enjoy all the new content now available for your Roku player. If you have more questions, please checkout our Channel Store FAQs, http://www.roku.com/support/faqs

As artwire mentions, you'll also need to create a user account on Roku's Web site. I suggest doing that after updating the Roku player to the new firmware and getting the registration code when you click the Channel Store icon.

I added Pandora, MediaFly and Revision3. Pandora sounded great on my HTS, just wish the Roku screen saver came on while Pandora is running.
Edit: yes there is indeed a screen saver, probably didn't have it running long enough for it to kick in last night.

Just did the manual update. No issues. Very cool stuff, indeed. I think the thing I am the most excited about is Motionbox - never heard of it, never used it. But I have a TON of AVCHD recordings made with a Panasonic camcorder, most of my son, and we have never been able to easily watch them. That's a winner for sure. I haven't checked all the other "channels" out yet, but this is beginning to be a real powerful little device for the money!!

Anyone having any trouble with Mediafly?

I couldn't get on their site earlier today, but I just got on 5 mins ago, signed up for an account and linked my Roku. On the Roku, I added the MediaFly channel in the Channel Store, went to that channel in the Roku's main menu, and got my link code under Managing Channels, I believe (the instructions on Mediafly's Web site are a little different).

From the discussion on their forum, they are swamped with new Roku users today.

I can't believe what they sell this thing for. Mediafly seems to be working better for me now. Now a Pandora question. Am I missing something here, or is there no way to add any of the genre channels? I want to add one of the Holiday stations. It added on the PC but doesn't show up on the Roku.

I had trouble yesterday with media fly - managed to link to my account (which I generally use via an ipod touch app) but whenever I tried to go anywhere in my own queue, it got stuck loading. I could play 'favorites' of other people, but had trouble accessing my own selections.

Haven't tried it today yet ... did manage to get a few MSNBC podcasts up and running using search, rather than trying to access my own lists.

Anyone know when MHZnetworks is getting their channel up and running? They've been advertising it - I'm mostly interested in their International Mysteries series, which would be great if avaiable through Roku. Not sure they're offering that type of content -- maybe just the news stations.

Tried manual update on mine and it says it's updated but there's no access to the new features yet so I'm assuming it didn't work...I'll try it again later.

There's been talk in other forums about Mediafly servers being overwhelmed by all the new Roku users. On Wednesday, my experience was hit and miss as well as I tried to create a new account on Mediafly's Web site and browse and add content. Sometimes it would "hang" when I clicked on a category, but if I went back, it worked. Playback on my Roku was spotty as well, as sometimes I couldn't access my content and when I could there were audio drops. Hopefully they'll get this worked out soon. In addition to Pandora, this is one new channel I'll definitely get a lot of use from.

The new FW is 2.4 b 344. If you have that, and you still don't have the new Channel Store icon to start adding your new channels, then you might want to do some troubleshooting with Roku tech support. Also make sure you are registered on Roku's Web site so you can link your player.

Update: I just read in the Roku forums that there is apparently a bug in the manual update process that some are experiencing. The Roku engineer suggests simply trying the manual update again until it "takes."

Thanks for the info. I'll give it until tomorrow or Monday and try updating again, and see if it'll work...hopefully they'll have had a chance to fix things by then.

I had to do it twice for it to take, but unlike Dee's experience, I dont think it said it took the first time around ... it's working fine now, except my personalized mediafly stuff is still unavailable. Favorites and search seems ok. I found a pretty cool 'learn a language on your coffeebreak' podcast I didn't know about. Interesting stuff.

I was a little disappointed with the Frame channel thing. They aren't kidding -- it's just single frames - kind of random newsy bits. And when accessing my Picassa photos, some images fill the screen and others are off center - hovering off the lower right hand side of the screen -- not sure why, exactly.

Pandora is working great .

But still, nice concept and I'm sure it'll grow with time, assuming they're not overwhelmed. (trying to get to get to the roku store for black friday was a joke - sale started at 11 am and no access... even after sold out.... at least they know the proper price point to move these boxes!
