OK, Im going to give the H5080 a shot. The money I save (over the 8602) lets me upgrade my screen selection to a Firehawk G3. Also, with the lower price-point, I wont feel too bad about upgrading the pj sooner (like to one of those new fangled 3D and/or LED models).
I do know going into it that reliability and/or customer service may be a crap-shoot, but on the other side, it really could be a re-badged 8600 (maybe minus some additional software settings) at 1/2 the price. Ha ha, worse case is that I unload the 5080 after a few months, and get the 8602 when it finally gets released this summer.
Both the pj and the screen will be here next week - though the final installation target date is the Superbowl. I'll do some informal tests (probably in a temporary location) with the pj next week while it is still "returnable".
The instruction manual is supposed to be on a disc (ie, pdf). If someone wants to host it (for others to download), just let me know. Im sure that manual will answer a lot of questions.
BTW, if you go by the "initial" press release(s), the 5080 and the 5082 share the same specs, so I believe that they really are the same model (as another poster commented). BB is just using the original specs - and of course, adding a 20% price hike.
