Please anybody with knowledge. I moved my not so old 46" XBR9 lcd and now when I plug it in and power it up it has A white bar threw the picture.. There are NO broken parts and the screen is undamaged(cracked, scratched, so on). Is there a way to reboot?? Please I am almost in tears.....I hope this can be fixed, or better yet reset.

PS- I did take the back pannel off to be sure no wires came loose or parts may have broke, NONE found, everything looks to be in perfect condition. I did take very much care in removing the rear cover. Thanks andy

Here are some pics of what I am refering too.

I had a similiar thing with my 52" XBR9 when it was only a little over 1 month old. The vertical band would appear in the same spot - about center screen for 10-15 minutes and sometimes would be black, sometimes multicolored snow and sometimes white. It would come on within the first 1/2 hr. of turning the TV on and then would remain for longer times but would always go away. After research on the Forum people said it was the panel and would probably get worse. Sony wanted to send a repair person but BB agreed to replace the TV since I was only slightly over the 1 mo. return policy. For the past 4 mos. the new set has been fine.

Not sure how old your set is but I would try to replace it if possible - if not have a Sony repair person out (be sure to keep your pictures to show them in case it is not there when they come to look at the TV). This is a sign something is wrong and most likely will only get worse.

you probably twisted the panel when moving
how do you reset a hardware problem?

if the panel got twisted would that do it?? what needs to be done to fix?? Thanks

Were you rough with it when you moved it? If you were very careful when moving it I don't think you did anything to cause this. Likely the problem was already manifesting itself and it just happened to show up right after you moved it. I don't see how moving the TV would have cause this if you were very careful. As long as there is no physical damage take it back to the store for an exchange or call SONY.

not rough at all.....and i dont know how it could have twisted, it is very sturdy and is solid. no cracks or scratches. any imput would greatly be appricated. I went threw the owners thread and it has nothing about what i am going threw. Thanks andy

Does anybody know A good Sony/Lcd tech. in Milwaukee Wisconsin??

Thanks andy

ps-I will gladly pay for service I am not looking for A freebie what so ever. AT

lets think about this for a second....

facts:

1. the TV was fine
2. you moved the TV from one place to another
3. what did you do EXACTLY to move it from one place to another?
4. answers here pls: .............................................
………………………………………………….
............................................................ .................

to me.... it seems that nothing could go wrong during 1-2 min while you were moving the TV from one place to another APART FROM mechanical twist... so, you have MOST LIKELY damaged the screen.... you may have squizzed the edges (also) without even remembering it…

... but I may be wrong....

unless you are willing to open the TV and start looking inside... I am afraid you are just wasting your time here.... call service ASAP and get the repair organised

However, if you are willing to do a bit of fault finding and know what to expect inside a TV... then pls let us know and we will lead you thru the process…

Good luck,

i did take the back off and everything looked good and all connections are tight and in place what should i look for? i am somewhat tech inclined. Thanks

If you unplug the tv, wait a couple minutes, then plug it in again, that should completely reset it. Given the bar is so well-defined, my guess is that it is a problem with the electronics, not the screen. Probably something that was on the verge of failing, then failed with the vibration from moving. Maybe something like a marginal solder connection. Can you get a menu to display in the part of the screen where the bar is? If the menu is ok, then it's clearly not be the screen.

to further fault find your unit, make sure first of all that you fully understand dangers of working with LIVE equipment. There are voltages inside that could kill !!!!

so, IF YOU ARE willing to take the risk..... proceed....

If you are not even remotely aware of what mains voltage (and high DC voltage bus used in SMPS) can do to you... DO NOT proceed!

all further checks will have to be made with the TV powered ON...

start by observing the picture and try to tap slightly on to:

1. metal cage that surrounds the T-CON board
2. ribbon cables that feed signals from T-CON board to LCD panel

... and make your own conclusions....if tapping the cage produces results - GOOD... remove the cage and start tapping on individual components... be patient...

it could be bad contact(s) somewhere... and this is NOT easy to find.

there's another approach, if you know how to check for cold solder joints and know hot to release clips and remove ribbon cables between T-Con board and LCD panel…

remove the T-Con board and start examining for signs of discoloration as the result of high heat dissipation. The problem is almost always to be found around big capacitors, large (>3W) resistors that are distanced from the PCB, semiconductors mounted on heat-sinks… If something looks suspicions, re-solder!

remove the ribbon cables and give ‘em a clean

put everything back together and see if the problem is still there…

If YES, well…. You will have to remove the LCD panel itself and check for signs of cracks / mechanical damage..

It is NOT that difficult at all….

Let me know what you think about the whole process… and remember…

Proceed only if you are ready to fully bear the consequences of your acts / decisions
