Hi all. I’m another noob just getting into HD stuff. Nothing high end but a big enough jump from what I had. I have been reading a ton trying to get up to speed et al. I guess you could say I am bitten by the tech bug as it were.
Recently purchased a Panny TC 50U1 last weekend. I was set on getting the TC 50PS14 but then saw the U1 as an open box for a good price (-$230 from the S14) so I nabbed it. A couple questions.
1. Does the anti glare on the S14 (or S1, there are a couple on sale locally) make a significant difference in reducing reflections/glare? The U1 is really nice but in the daytime the reflections are quite significant and I’m thinking of returning for one of the above? One of the downsides of plasma I guess.
2. After reading many of the break in threads on the Panny 12G’s etc. and finding out how to locate how much time has been clocked via the service menu, mine has almost 400hrs (e.g. it displayed something like 395.010 )? That seems like a lot for a “new” item , no? Any thoughts as to this being a big deal (return)?
3. If I return it to get the S14 or S1 are there really any significant pros/cons between these? The big thing being the “NeoPDP” (which some say the S14 does have), moving picture lines etc.. They are about the same cost so it seems like a toss. Sure seems confusing to have basically three models all about the same specs/price point. I am just looking for the best picture and longevity. However, I just noticed threads on rising black levels and again, I’m new to all of this. Is an equiv Samsung the way to go or is it just the nature of the beast as every brand is going to have its issues? Or, wait for the 2010 models maybe.
Thanks for any thoughts suggestions
