Oh boy. What has happened to my Steelers. Tough loss to Cincy, then a ridiculous loss to KC, now no Big Ben at Baltimore tonight. Still no Troy Polamalu either. Dennis Dixon? Hope seems faint for this game. It's gonna be a struggle to make the playoffs now.

Hi from the truck bay of M&T Bank Stadium. Nice day in Baltimore. Enjoy the game. I'll check in later.

100% agree.

In Annapolis MD and using FiOS, watching on WRC-DT (Washington DC) instead of WBAL-DT (Baltimore MD) because WBAL *still* doesn't have DD5.1. Picture is better on WBAL because they have fewer subchannels, but sound is very clearly better on WRC because it's actually 5.1. I wish I were motivated enough to use audio from one channel and video from the other, but...

WRC: Looks good, sounds great! Video is a little blocky during motion, but that's because WRC uses two subchannels.

WBAL: Looks very good, sounds mediocre. Video is better because WBAL only uses one subchannel. Audio is only lacking because WBAL lacks 5.1.

Are the timeouts left a recent addition to the score bar?

Maybe 3-4 weeks ago.

Same as usual. Great sound (via WCNC Charlotte), and nice PQ except for the constant focus issues at any change in graphics.

Crown noise is overwhelming commentator's voices. NBC-HD via Cox Comm. New Orleans, LA. Really different mix on the Non-HD NBC Channel. Something tries to cut the crowd noise and amp up the commentary, it makes the sound vary wildly throughout the game. The 55 yd gain was completely muffled sound while Al was talking.

WNBC-DT NY OTA

Looks very sharp, and great audio mix.

I know this is technically "Thanksgiving weekend", but we are 3 days past it, and they are flashing a "Thanksgiving" logo from time to time in the scorebar.

Not encountering that in Dallas. Does your NBC station use "5.1" audio for local content like the news? They may be using a fancy audio processor that is incorrectly adjusting levels between channels in real time.

Very clear on DirecTV in South Bend, IN... however the turf or lighting in the stadium gives it a uber-warm color look.

Whats up with all the mpeg garbage on the replay on that TD? I've seen the same thing in previous SNF games. Bad hard drive in the replay machine?

What is the fetish with zooming in on players/coaches heads? I dont need to see a 110" head, I want to see the offense/defense formations and whats going on the field.

So what? Doesn't bother me. And as you said, it's still part of the Thanksgiving weekend.

Orlando NBC from D*, I had to switch from DD to stereo because the crowd noise from the rear speakers was too loud and I couldn't understand whet the commentators were saying.

Wow, you guys are so picky. I also like to see the field and the formations. But I enjoy seeing the expressions and emotions that can only be seen with a close up. Do you guys actually ever sit back and just enjoy the game the way it's presented or do you spend 3 + hours looking for things to complain about?

Via Fios with local NBC feed. No problem hearing the commentators when DD was engaged. Perhaps D* did something weird or you have an amplifier or speaker level issue. Try to calibrate your speakers with a Radio Shack sound level meter.

I watched it on U-Verse in South Bend, IN, and the picture was very pixely. I switched to OTA (or Dtv) and it was much better.

I only post what I notice during the game. When the closeups and cuts to cameras not showing the game on the field start to interfere with the flow of watching a football game, I will complain.

I have noticed more this season, especially on CBS and NBC, more closeups and camera shots of things not related to the game. A lot of the times they barely get back to the main camera in time for the snap, which is annoying because all you see is the snap and its hard to figure out the formations, etc. CBS in particular has missed quite a few start of plays because they were showing something else.

I have this same problem in Portland Oregon. I mentioned it in last week's game thread. All 3 Sunday day games were just fine for me; it's ironic that the "primetime" NFL game is the only one that has crappy, crappy, crappy sound.

I don't know about 5.1, DD, etc issues. I simply record the bits on a TiVo HD and play audio back from the "left" and "right" RCA outputs on the TiVo. I know it's not my receiver doing funky processing, because I transferred last week's program to another TiVo that has two amplified speakers connected directly to RCA outputs and the sound quality still sucked.

Interesting. I guess I always had assumed everyone was listening via a DD 5.1 receiver as I am. If you were using such a system you could, at least in principal, jack up the center channel volume as that is used only for the announcers. Of course, you shouldn't have to do that.

I should emphasize that the main problem is Al Michaels' voice when the crowd is especially noisy. Cris Collinsworth seems OK.

I see a lot of people saying the sound is great. I wonder if they are not having the problem with Al's voice or if they are simply running the sound very loud.

BTW, I doubt the local station has anything to do with it. Re-encoding DD 5.1 would probably cost at lest $50 -- more than KGW could afford.

The local station has everything to do with it. While Fox, PBS, and (possibly) CW distribute ready-to-use DD5.1 streams to affiliates. ABC, CBS, and NBC stations must encode the audio themselves, and CW stations have the option to do so. Belo bought Harris Neustar Multimerge audio processors for all their stations (including KGW) a couple years ago, so I'd place my money on the station taking the pristine audio from NBC and mangling it through excessive processing.
