New here. Looking for advice on our three choices to buy in the next couple weeks

Thread Starter
Hi all -
I'm new here and certainly glad I found the forums. We're looking to buy a TV in 2 weeks. To start a little background as to hopefully give you better info to offer advice. We currently have a 65" Mitsubishi Rear projection (yep one of those monsters we bought about 5 or so years ago). We're by no means videophiles and probably wouldn't notice those intricate details many of you note such as the shade of black, etc etc.

We love watching movies and will be purchasing a blu ray player with the Panel. In addition we're finally hooking up an HD satellite and our PS3. Yeah I know we're late in the game (lol). We think we've narrowed down to (3) plasma panels. We've read a ton of reviews and the 1st two seem to be liked very well. I'm hoping anyone can provide some help/advice on which you'd choose over the other etc. They're all about the same price (roughly).

The Plasma TVs (no order of preference):

1) Samsung PN58650 or PN58B860 (both 58")
- All reviews say the picture clarity is incredible. The only issue is the buzzing. Now is the buzzing ear piercing or something only the most critical videophiles would notice? We currently run our TV through a receiver and typically have the TV fairly loud. Any kind of guage or analogy in terms of buzzing loudness would be appreciated.

2) Panasonic TC-P58S1 (58")
- Reviews say it's a good panel. I've read about the V10 however not sure if the price delta will justify the means. I hear of green tones that some notice and not sure if we'd even notice that. Again coming from our rear projection 65'er (which we think has good picture haha).

3) Sharp LC-60E77UN (60" LCD)
- Saw this at the store today and the salesman said Sharp is a great TV and said we'd be happy with this, the Samsung or Panasonic ('course that didn't help!). I can't seem to find many reviews on it. I do like that's it's a 60" and the price is under $2k. Any inputs behind this set?

We'd ideally like to have a 60" but only see the Sharp and recently heard of an LG (but had sub par reviews) that are under or close to $2k. However we've heard excellent things regarding the Samsung and Panasonic. The more reviews I read the more up in the air I am (haha). We're basically looking for which of these (above) are the better performing sets.

Any help, suggestions, or votes would be appreciated. Thanks much!!!

There are a zillion posts on those sets and an Owner's Thread for each one of them. To make the best possible choice and not rely on random comments, you might want to invest some of your time and educate yourself. The search function here works great. Good luck

get the panasonic for sure. if the buzzing doesn't scare you, get the samsung 58b650. knock the lcd off your list immediately.

Why knock the LCD off??

If your not a detail buff (I'm not either), I would go with the Biggest one. I just purchased the the sharp 60" at best buy for $1799 and have no regrets. It was next to a samy 55 led and the sharp actually looked brighter. They are all so close in pic when you bring it home I dont think it really matters anyway. My .02

knock the lcd off for the overall better experience, unless the op likes an unrealistic viewing experience. and deciding between 58" plasma and 60" lcd isn't that big a difference in real estate. in all honestythough, if the op reads this, sharp makes one of the better lcd tv's. and they're prices are usually good when compared to other brands of the same size.

For a cheap 60", you might consider the LG 60PS11 1080p plasma which can be purchased on line for as low as $1,499.

My same issue. I am ready to pull the trigger. I am looking at the 58B650 and saw the LG PS60. The price on both is sub 2k where I am and the difference btw the 2 is 250. I want the extra 2 inches, extra 250 but am afraid of glare (tv will be next to large bay window that has direct light). I must say that I have always liked Samsungs and do like the B650's picture etc more. I only worry about the "buzz" issue. Perhaps I should not worry and "just do it". Any thoughts?
Thanks

if you're getting it from a brick and mortar store, go for it. this is so you can take advantage of the return policy. if not, look elsewhere.
