Hello

This forum has been immensely useful for me for various things, I really thank everyone who contributed to this site so much. Here, I would like to get some help decide the following. I promise to update with the pics as I progress on this project.

I am looking to have av cabinet right above the fireplace and have access on the sides and have TV recessed above the fireplace. Currently, you can see the pic that shows about 4" frame (in white color) that I want to remove to get rid of the layered look.

#1 Would like to remove the while color frame which is about 4" depth.
#2 Recess and reinforce the frame so that TV will be flush with the background. I am looking to get ideas here how can I make the recessed portion flexible enough so that if I get larger (or smaller) tv later on, the recessed portion would not look bad.
#3 Insulate top portion of the gas fired fireplace in chimney so that heat would not affect the place above mantle.
#4 Finally move the equipments (dish receiver, sony subwoofer, dvd plaer, htpc) seen on the left side now to the new built in shelf behind the tv. This will hide all the equipment.

As you can see internet, vide, hdmi cables are run through back of the tv through chimney already. The depth of the chimney is about 2 feet.

Eventually I want to build shelves with cabinet in both the sides of the fireplace (or tv).

I would appreciate any suggestions/comments about what I should watch out for.

Thanks again.
