This.

Hollywood really know how to ruin things.

Some recent news about Bourne 4, titled "The Bourne Legacy", at least for now. Apparently it won't have anything to do with Eric Lustabader's book of the same name. Tony Gilroy who wrote the first 3 films and worked closely with Damon and Greengrass, is officially writing the script.

"Universal is hoping to turn Damon's frown upside down with the news that Tony Gilroy has agreed to write the screenplay for what is being tentatively titled, "The Bourne Legacy."

"Bourne Legacy" moving forward: Is Matt Damon back in?

...we've said it numerous times and I don't particularly want to sound like a tagline, but Matt Damon IS Jason Bourne. I just don't see (and actually don't want) anyone else portaying him. If they do this, I really hope they can bring him back in as well.

I dont think Bourne works that good on the screen. He is too good, and his enemies isnt good enough. Not much of a challange, and audiences likes an underdog.

There isnt that much difference between Bourne and your avarage Seagal character.

The only thing I don't like is the fact he never uses a disguise of any sort. Heck, the "shaky-cam" doesn't even bother me. *shrugs*

I hate the MTV shooting style of the Bourne movies. Ugh!

If you take away the running, the chasing, or the silly Wyle E. Coyote-way he almost never gets badly hurt no matter what happens to him (or the assassin who's chasing him, ala Supremacy) ...

There is hardly a solid story left to tell. The first one was the best even if flawed, but then the others were just rinse-n-repeat copycats with progressively shakier camera work.

This franchise's influences already ruined Bond, so let Bourne die, already!

So I'm picturing him walking out of a room in slo-mo in the intro to the next installment, with a huge fro and some shades and whacking some guy.

The shakey cam Bourne style was old when it first came around, but now it's just sickening. Enough already. Thankfully Greengrass was trashed for it by critics with GREEN ZONE.

The action in the first Bourne film was actually better because it used shots that made sense and not much jitterbug BS.

Apologize for jumping in here, but I really like the Bourne movies. One thread I would really like to see wrapped up is Bourne's connection with Nickey Parsons. I really got the feeling that there was a deeper connection than what has been shown. I think she knew him before he was brought into the program.

Since she said "It was always difficult...... for me", I assume that meant they shared an emotional/intimate connection prior to him joining the program.

I don't want to turn it into Mission Impossible; just pull on a skullcap or at least some sunglasses once in a while. I think even his love interest had the good sense to cut and dye her hair.

They ended things nicely with the 3rd film. Just leave it alone.

No Mat Damon?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1194173/fullcredits#cast

I saw "The Whistle-blower" the other day with Rachel Weisz and have to say, oh dear, an actress that can't do an American accent to save her life! Needless to say we were so taken out of the movie by her lack of skill we turned it off!

Nope, he left with Paul Greengrass.

No Liman as Exec Producer either. So who's playing Bourne?

No one. Renner's is a different character. Except for Joan Allen and Albert Finney, it's a different movie, "in the line" of the previous Bourne movies. Looks like "a new franchise is born"!

But Matt Damon said that doesn't mean there won't be another Greengrass/Damon Bourne collaboration in the future. Probably a smart move otherwise this character wouldn't be very helpful for Damon's career. Bourne does this, Bourne does that, etc. As far as I'm concerned no one esle than him can be Jason Bourne, but I'm curious about Renner, let's see how he will deal with 2 superspies...Cause he's set to replace Tom Cruise in the next Mission Impossible films as well (post-Ghost protocol).

I see, the title "legacy" does make sense now.

The 1st one had the best story/plot and had "character" with unique situations and action. The 2nd one was more action oriented and still alright and looking back now could be my fav in the bunch. The 3rd one was IMO pure junk and the worst of all of em, just run and gun and more run and escape from one city to the next with the only change of scenery. No story or real plot, just a breakneck trail of on the run for the adrenaline action junkies like Crank. Time for reboot yes thank god.

No story? meaning that J. Bourne finally discovering (and us too) what happened to him, who was behind it is irrelevant?. I really like all 3 films equally. I think it's one of the greatest 'super-spy-series' of all time.

P.S: I hate Crank.

This will end up like XXX2, SON OF THE MASK and DUMB AND DUMBERER. A failure. You do not recast the lead.

007 films are special. Bourne is no 007.

Nah, both the Mission Impossible series and the Bourne series were far better than any of the James Bond movies over the last 15 years.

Huh? Okay then. Interesting opinion.

Jeremy Renner talks about some new Bourne Legacy details and other related things:

http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplayli...about-the-role

Also of note is the director (Tony Gilroy) and the cast line up that includes Edward Norton, Rachel Weisz, Oscar Isaac as well as returning members of the 'Bourne' franchise Joan Allen, Scott Glenn and Albert Finney.

Bourne 4: Now with 3 year olds holding the cameras.
I agree with some of the sentiment on this thread. The Bourne films are special and the character has pretty much come full circle so I don't think another Damon/Bourne movie makes sense.

Looking at their filming schedule on IMDB if Damon and Greengrass were to do another Bourne film it can't happen until 2014 or 2015 the earliest.

I am intrigued about this new story ("sidequel") and I like Renner so I am routing for him and Gilroy to succeed!
Agree with the basic opinion here. The 3 films tie up nicely for the series. Damon is Bourne, end of story. The first film was the best tone and feel in every respect. Anything further is just a sorry ass studio rubbin' one off on anyone who cares to buy it.
read the 3 books from the original author. Loved em. read the fourth book (ie the b**(*(tard child) and gee...horrible. If they are gonna make a fourth movie Id like to see a prequel. But still I think the trilogy was perfect as it was. Dont ruin it

Mods, can we rename this thread to 'Bourne 4 - The Bourne Legacy'?

This article brings the first image of Renner as 'Aaron Cross', the protagonist of this new Bourne film.

Also, confirmation of the supporting cast: Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Oscar Isaac, Joan Allen, Albert Finney, Stacy Keach and Scott Glenn.
