Official 'Modnation Racers' thread - Page 5

I'm with JoeBlow on this one. Game is super fun. I was extremely skeptical, but figured it was a game I could fire up with the girlfriend every now and again, so it was worth a purchase. I fired it up solo and played for a few hours last night - total blast.

Career is fun - and the added cutscenes between races was a surprise. The online races are great. Load times are exaggerated. Creativity is off the charts. Should be an endless possibility on the number of tracks to play. Definitely a perfect pickup and play type of game. And how can you beat cruising around as Mr T in the A-Team van on day 1.

If you like the demo, but on the fence, I say go for it. Amazon has it for $53 and still has the $10 VG credit.

I agree with the drift mechanics opinion, that's super-cool!

The load times are almost unbearably slow even once in the game for me.

I predict this will be the new #1 family game for us until the Move stuff comes out.

I couldn't put this down once I started last night. Played through the first series and about half the 2nd series in career mode. I like how they break the tracks down into various challenges for added difficulty. Like, if your not that skilled at the game you can just aim for 3rd+ and keep the story progressing. If that isn't challenging for you, you play to meet certain objectives, and then get challenged by main nemesis of the track to some kind of 1 on 1 competition after completing both objectives (starting @ series 2).

Also played quite a bit online and it seemed pretty good. Had a casual lobby with ~8 players going for a while. Got 2nd quite a few times and 1st once. It seemed like the same few guys battling for top spots each race so it's nice to see the game favours skill and is not just a random chaotic mess with the weapons. racing skill > weapons for getting wins.

I was also blown away by the number and quality of the mods people have been doing. I only downloaded 1 character as I mostly want to create my own, but I got a Bender mod which is pretty awesome to race around with (especially when he flips people the bird, it seems so bender-esque). There was so much variety online too, it's really fun getting into a lobby and seeing what everyone has come up with.

Great game so far!

Picked up the game at lunch today.

Guys mind if I add you to my friends list? Will spend some time playing tonight after 9pm Eastern.

Amazing track editor (that Crash Bandicoot track is great!)
Horrible load times (claimed to be fixed at launch?)
Somewhat boring gameplay (even my son, who loves Mario Kart, does not care for it)
Odd view (not sure what it is but it just feels strange, maybe this can be adjusted but I didn't see it)

Other than the amazing track editor...I disagree with everything you said...

I always welcome more AVS'ers on my list.

I haven't really seen how friend's lists work with this game yet. Hopefully they made it pretty easy to drop in/out of casual lobby's with friend's and isn't based around being the host.

Hey guys who own the game - how creative can you get with characters?

I'd like to make that broccoli or sunflower character from the mario kart parody. Is that possible? Or am I limited to just making dudes with big moustaches?

It's actually pretty detailed. I've seen some pretty awesome looking Iron Man, Mario and Spider-man mods (characters) in the game already.

I really want to pick this game but I'm addicted to RDR. Will probably get it next week while I'll go pick up Alice in Wonderland on Bluray

Finally another game my girlfriend will want to play

I have seen a Tree, as well as a pirahna plant from Mario Bros. It is a fairly deep system if you are creative enough to work around the limitations with stickers & props.

At the same time it's not like, infinitely deep. I created a Guile last night (from Street Fighter), and basically couldn't find any way to properly do his hair. You can have some boxes out of his head and have it look like crap, or use whatever the spikiest hair style is in the game.

For people still waiting to get the game who want to see what kind of mods are being made, you can go to modnationracers.com -> community -> creations and see (thumbnail versions) of all the top mods, karts and tracks from outside the game.

There's a creation spot in the game where you can go and create more mods, karts, and tracks. In that same area is where you can find different tracks to download.

This game could be a lot of fun if not for the numerous loading screens.

Really enjoying the game so far. Was able to (somewhat) create a Brendon Small mod..complete with the spikes in the back, although you can't see them in the thumbnail.

Anyway, feel free to add me if any of you guys want to race sometime.

Here is the Guile I created. Also did an M Bison that is published but I don't have screenshots.

The chain / dog tags was a pain. All individually stickered for each notch in the chain + shadowing to help give it a 3D look. The USA flag tattoo is not accurate, but that was also all done by hand as well.

I will be picking this up any day now I have a $25 gift card to Target that I'm going to use, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Hey guys, question, can I play on in 2 player mode? Getting this game today and I know my girl and I are going to be playing each other all day and don't really feel like playing against the AI all day so can we play online in splitscreen mode?

Yep! You can do 2-player split screen online. It might be limited to casual matches, but casual seems to be way more popular then XP/ranked matches right now.

That's not bad at all! Good job man. Next time I'm on I'll dload it and give you five stars. You should make a convertible armored SUV to go with it.

Thanks Actually I made a vehicle for him as well which is published as "Guile Sonic Boom Kart". I used the Semi-Truck body with camo paint so it looks kind of like a transport truck, and it has a "Sonic Boom!" logo on each side.

Best. Game. Evar.

Load times suck for me.

Seriously though, I love it. My new lady friend even played with me for a while. Oh and she raced a couple times too.

Very nice! How is the creation's tool? I played with it a couple bit in the demo and was wondering how it was in the full-game. I'll pick this game up when they'll offer some money off for sure

Creation tools are great! I've only really gone extensively into the character creator though. I haven't touched the track creator, but I've played a few user created tracks online that were really well done.

Speaking of user-created tracks, I only downloaded one so far and it was incredible to me. It was called Uprising City by elrey 18. Pretty good IMO.

Anyone else having trouble beating Drillbit in the drifting grudge race? He consistently gets a score of 110,000, while my max is about 90,000. I'll keep trying but was curious...

I beat it, but it took a good 5-6 tries. I scored ~105k and he had 95k'ish. You need to nail all the big drift sections, and if you eat a wall and drop a big drift you might as well restart. Make sure to do 360's off all the jumps, and you also get some extra points for finishing first (or the opponent loses points or something).
