Impulse bought a projector, have a couple screen questions

I purchased a projector earlier this week, with 0 planning and research. The projector I bought was a BENQ W6000 1080P DLP. I will be putting it in my living room, which is far from idea. There are three walls all with windows. I will have a backup LCD for causual daytime viewing, and will be adding blackout shades and curtains to most of the windows (exceptions are my south facing french doors, which will only have curtains, and my west facing front door which will be about 10' to the right of my screen and slightly behind my screen).

My understanding is that this projector is pretty bright, so I'm hoping any ambient light that manages to leak through won't be an issue. My seating position will be a couple inches shy of 12' from the screen. I need to ceiling mount the screen and will be going with a tab tension electric roll down (most likely elite cinetension). I have about 10' behind my seating position to ceiling mount the projector, so I should be able to set optimal throw for just about any screen size.

So here are my questions:

1. What screen size would you recommend? I was thinking of 120" diagonal 16:9, but I'm worried that might be just a little too big.

2. Should I be looking a high gain or contrast screen w/ my setup? The screen I'm looking at is white with a 1.1 gain.

EDIT - I have 8' celilings and have to go with retractable because I have two 3x5 windows behind the screen's location. I really don't want a manual pull-down. Just seems tacky and poorly integrated to me, and I don't want to have to deal with waves down the road, hence the desire for a tab tensioned electric setup.

That is too large a screen for your viewing distance in my opinion...especially coupled with your room. If you room is lighter colored as well, I'd go with a gray (ideally positive gain but Elite doesn't make one).

I came to the 120" figure after dinking around with the home theater calculator spreadsheet. If I want to keep a THX recommended viewing angle of 36 degrees (not sure how important that is), I can't go below 108" diagonal. Should I disregard the 36 degree recommendation and go by some other rule of thumb?

My room color is a a medium shade of gray with a slight blueish tint. Elite does have a cinegrey screen, but most of the reviews have been slightly negative.
