You know, this brings up another question. Maybe I missed the answer, this thread is quite long.

Is there a quick reference list of what the settings actually mean? Deep color, 240Hz, etc. are industry terms. But, these are called something else in the LG's menu. Ex: I think I've read that Trumotion means 240Hz, but I assume that is the highest mode. Is the low mode 120Hz or something?

What's the bulb life that people are seeing on their units and does anyone have recommendations on places to buy a 2nd bulb? Thanks.

TruMotion=120Hz. There is no 240Hz mode in LG, as far as I know. I don't have my LG anymore, but I remember film = 24p. if you have other questions on some other settings, I can probably help based on my memory. i did spent a LOT of time calibrating and playing around with the settings. Sad that I am letting it go because of the frequent power-failure.

Also, are non-LG lamps OK to use or should I really stick with the LG branded lamp? I'm talking about options like this: http://lamps.projectorsuperstore.com...&aid=GoogleRSS

I tried a cheap lamp on my Panny. Hated it. Coworker has a cheap lamp for his Mits. Hates it. Poor color, poor life. YMMV.

Good feedback Spiky, thanks.

So where are you guys getting your bulbs?
Been shopping online for a projector for a HT I'm building in my basement. I prefer to have some lites on while watching and will build a DIY screen with Sentra (ALA DIY fourms) Found this LG w/ extra bulb for 1500.00 bucks new. Hard for me to buy since I can't test drive any where I live. Another thread states the epson 3010 from Amazon is a deal. Any thought's on this price range? My concern is this model of LG came out a few years ago and maybe there are better options now. I don' t really want to wear glasses and have 3d but maybe its good to have, IDK.

Fight,

Did you get the RS-45? If so how is it compared to the Cf181? I was on the list to get theRS45 from AVS, but had some family issues pop up that put in on the back burner. Besides I still way under 1k hrs on my Cf181. I think I have less than 500HR and most of those hrs are learning how to calibrate it. Oh well.... The way I see it, there is always next best thing just around the corner.

Thanks. I think the only other one right now is Real Cinema, what is it? People talk about it like they know exactly what it is, but I can't seem to find a comment that explains it. The manual says nothing helpful, and by using it I've learned nothing.

Hey fight4yu, you mentioned power-failure in regards to the LG. What was your experience? I ask because the one I had been trying out cut off 2 or 3 times and I thought I had bumped the power cable and perhaps it was loose.
As the number of 2D projectors dwindles. What is the community's opinion on how this projector stacks up against the Panasonic AE4000? I was late on the 6500ub and I do not want a DLP. I would be pairing this projector with a 100" gray screen. It'll be for HD TV 50% of the time, sports 25% of the time, and movies 25%.

Fresh off my 'thumbs up' review, I now have my first issue :-/

The 'Trumotion' option is grayed out in the menu (And trumotion demo) is greyed out.

Real Cinema is also greyed out.

Trumotion is stuck 'on' (Which is the worst part)

I have tried reseting the menu options in each category, I have left the unit unplugged for 10 hours and it did not reset (as it has previously when left unplugged)... starts up exactly the same as it left off.. and I am out of ideas.

Does anyone know of a factory reset code, or any other ideas at this point? Thanks in advance...

I really don't know. The 2 power failures I had is around Oct in CA, so it should not be heat related. My unit had at least 5-6 ft of openings around, so there is no ventilation problem. I cleaned the filter once a month, so it should not clog... and the first time it failed is around 100hrs, and the second time I think is around 300ish.. and both within 2 years. They never told me what the real problem is because they said they just swapped the chassis or something.

I got the RS-55
The blacks on RS-55 is MUCH better than CF181. That's one of the biggest take I got. The grayscale/CMS on the RS-55 is quite good OOTB. Also, I thought I missed the LG lumens, but I actually don't. RS-55 although spec at 1000, it still feels pretty bright to me and I am only in low lamp mode and close the IRIS at least 2/3.

Real Cinema is 24p. If you turn it ON, it will accept 24p content and display I think as 48Hz. If this is not on, then I think it will not accept 24p content, i.e. only 60Hz.

Weird. Thanks, I'll have to check that out. Esp compared to my sync problem.

Hello,

Anyone has solved the reddish tint problem when calibrating? It drives me crazy! Calman 4, VideoEq and Enhanced EyeOne Display 2 / M2 with Calman Pattern Generator. I have the red "anomaly" at 90 IRE, too.

What I don't understand, is how Calman can says that the RGB balance is correct, when it's so pinkish? Do I send it back to LG? Any idea?
Has anyone noticed any yellow discoloration like seen previously on SXRD tv's. I really want this projector but my SXRD Sony tv was a nightmare. When it worked well though it was a thing of beauty. The problem only occurred after 2000 or do hours of use on those rptv's.

I just received my LG CF181D from Projectorpeople. Like ChrisRex, some of the options under advanced picture is grayed out. I cannot access the TruMotion Demo, Trumotion setting (Off), Noise Reduction (off), Real Cinema (off), Overscan (100). Under Gamma Mode, I cannot access IRE (0.0).

Am I missing out on anything important here? Should I complain to Projectorpeople? LG?

Cheers,

Jacob

Warning to anyone using a ceiling mount. The mounting threads seem to be imbedded in plastic and you can break them loose if you tighten a little too hard. I was tightening one of the four screws and heard a loud pop sound. After that the screw just kept spinning and never tightened. Luckily the other three held real tight and were sufficient with holding it in place. Just be careful when tightening (I didn't even use what I would consider excessive force at all btw)
That sucks, man. I wouldn't say that is unique to this projector, though. I barely go past finger-tight for those screws.

Did you ever get an answer for this? It's probably because some options are disabled depending in what resolution signal the projector is receiving. For example you can't adjust overscan and noise reduction with a 1080p signal but you can adjust trumotion and most other options. Btw, this projector is awesome. I've only put 12 hours on mine but I have to say that LCoS is the way to go! Such a beautiful picture.

Hugo looked absolutely amazing on this projector. Of course it wasn't in 3D but it sure looked three dimensional! Taken with Iphone 4

My cf181d has started making a loud buzzing noise. It sounds like its coming from a fan that is on the rear of the unit on the bottom. I know its not the iris, because when the iris is set to manual i still hear this noise. Has anyone experienced this? Getting close to sending it back for repair.

This may not address your issues, but I did discover that if you are using keystone adjustments, you will be unable to use TruMotion - which will be grayed out on the menu.

Did you ever figure out what this was? Haven't heard this on mine but I only have 25 hours so far.

Costco has this on sale for $1399 and am trying to decide between this and an Optoma. The only thing im worried about this model is the 'power' shut off issues and i think somebody said its next to impossible to find replacement bulbs. I have a light controlled room and ive always been impressed with the reviews its gotten. Can some long time users put my mind at ease on pulling the trigger on this. Costco has a 90 day return policy and a 2 year warranty. If i experienced the power issue within that time i could get my money back. After that im not sure how Costcos warranty works.

The lamp is always available on projectorpeople.com for $299. I could not find it in other places, but it is always there on projectorpeople.com

Depending on how critical you need the PJ, I think it is a great first-time buy. Picture is crisp and very "high-def". Black is not comparable to JVC or Epson. it is bright in Vivid mode... For $1399, I say it is pretty good from a price/performance point.
For Cons, the power-issues, and there are some banding issues (so make sure you test those during your 90 day).
