Seeking Advice between Sony KDL-52V100 or Vizio VF550M or Panasonic TC-54PS14

Hi Guys,

This is my first post and after scanning the forums this seemed like the best place for this type of thread.

I am looking to purchase one of these three sets:

1. Sony KDL-52V100 (LCD)
2. Vizio VF550M (LCD)
3. Panasonic TC-54PS14 (Plasma)

The prices after considering deals, shipping and taxes are going to be roughly the same for all of these sets so no consideration from a price point just from quality and reliability.

I guess both the Panasonic and Sony are low end for their offering, I have heard the G10 series are much better than the S1 but this is all that is within my price range.

I am leaning towards the Sony since they are one of the better producers of LCD which I would like for low power consumption and glare issues. From what I can surmise this is a good option but wanted to get some feedback in this forum. I don't know enough about Vizio's offering to compare it to Sony and if I can get both for about the same price wouldn't I pick the Sony? Thoughts?

So even though the Panasonic Plasma might have the best picture (?) I am opting for either the Vizio or Sony on grounds of lower power consumption and glare issues and given how it is the lower end plasma and not the G10 series. But between the Vizio and the Sony I am not sure, the Vizio would be 55" and Sony only 52" but I don't know if that is reason enough to go with the Vizio. Please let me know your thoughts and items I should consider. I am told the W-series for the Sony would be much better than the V-series especially with the Bravia3 engine and the V-series having production issues but again the W-series like the Panasonic G10 is out of my price range. So if I had to pick between the low end offering from Panasonic and Sony plus Vizio for good measure what would be your advice.

Thanks in advance.

For the same price the Sony would be my pick if you have a normal to bright room. For a dark room the Panasonic would give the best picture. Sony and Panasonic have solid product support, easy to find servicers. Vizio is hit or miss.

Thanks for the helpful input. I was leaning towards the Sony as I do have a bright room but wanted to get some confirmation. Thanks again for chiming in and providing your input.

I tend to agree. Though if the room is normal in terms of lighting I'd go with the Panny (bright, go Sony). Are you purchasing from a WH retailer i.e. - Sam's, Costco etc.?

BTW, I haven't heard a definitive answer as to whether the S14 series has the neoPDP panel like the S1. I do know that the G10 and the S1 both use the same panels so PQ will likely be the same. If you shop around you can find the 54S1 for around the same price.

My friend just picked up the Vizio you are considering and while the size is impressive the black level left a lot to be desired. It was more of a gray.

I have a bright room also. My light comes in on the south side window, which is nearly a full wall length, this is light on the side, not behind the set.

I have the Panasonic TC-P54S1 plasma and I can tell you that light has not been a problem at all. I am very pleased with it in this setting.

The S14 uses an older panel. I would spend a little bit extra for the S1.

The Panny would be from Costoc but I just pulled the trigger on the Sony KDL-52V5100 from Amazon, they had a good bundled deal with the PS3.

The Vizio box looks impressive with statements like EcoHD and TruVolume and all the other catch words they have there but the reviews here as well as other places wasn't as good.

Thanks again for everyone's help.
