programming help on a URC MX-450

I am controlling everything through RF with an MRF-260 if that makes a difference.

1. How can I make the "OFF" button shut off every single component with a single touch?

2. Is there a way to change the volume control from a short burst to a constant on whenever you press the button? I'm having trouble controlling the volume on my Yamaha receiver, I have to keep pushing the button over and over and over just to turn it up a little bit. I think its because it just does a short IR burst rather than blasting the IR continuously as I press the button.

3. When I'm programming macros, I would like all over devices to turn off when I switch between activities. For example, if I'm watching TV and want to change over to a movie, I'd like the cable box to shut off. Is there a way to make the remote turn off whatever else is on when I switch?

4. How can I program discrete codes into this device?

Thanks for the help.

If all your devices have discrete off commands you can record a macro to send "off" to all your devices.

You would have to explicitly record the "off" discretes into each macro that sets up your activity.

The discrete codes are typically on the soft buttons. However, sometimes they are in separate devices.

What hardware are you looking for discretes for.

Yamaha - try code 0711 - discretes on soft buttons.
Infocus - try code 0330 - discretes on soft buttons.
WDTV - not sure - you might have to learn it from the original
Philips DVD player - without knowing the model number I would try code 0066 first - I don't know if there are discretes.
DirectTV H23-600 - try code 0173 - discrete on/off on soft buttons.

thanks a lot, but how do I learn it from the original remote? There arent any soft buttons on the remote.

If the WDTV doesnt have discrete off codes then what can I do to work around this? I have a feeling its going to be a problem.

I am not sure what you mean when you say there aren't any soft buttons. The soft buttons are the ones on the LCD.

If you want to learn from the original remote you can use the "LEARN" feature under basic setup. I don't have one of these in front of me right now to give you specific steps but basically what you do is go into the learn menu and learn each button one at a time. Once the mx-450 is ready you point the two remotes at each other and press the button you want to learn.

I am not sure. I would search around for discretes first. There may be some out there. If you can't find any you have a few options.

1. Check for commands that turn the unit on other than the on/off switch. For example, what happens if you press play when it is off. If it turns it on then you can just send that in your macro as that should be fairly safe to send whether the device is on or off.
2. You can omit the power for that device from your macro and handle it manually.
3. You can leave it on all the time.

I have never used that particular device so there may be another way but I will defer to folks who have a WD TV.

sorry bout that, I was confused...I know what soft buttons are but for some reason I thought you mean soft buttons on the source remote. I didnt realize that there were almost always soft discrete on/off codes within the pages of each device.

I got my passcode today to get access to the dealer only support website and watched a tutorial on how to program this remote, which helped a lot. It would have really saved me some headache if I'd have watched it before trying to figure it out on my own.

Any idea about how to change the length of the IR emission for the volume control?

What process did you go through to get access to the dealer only website? Just got my MX-450 and would love to watch that video!

My guess is to become a URC dealer.
