Anyone tried 28.1 speaker config?

Sounds ludicrous, but has anyone seen or tried a setup where you deploy 4 speakers per channel (2x2 parallel, in series for impedance)?

I've been considering this idea to replace the large front, mismatched surrounds setup I currently have. Sort of like 'RAID for HT'

I have thoughts on why it might be ideal, but wonder if anyone can see flaws.

Apart from anything else, I think it it would be a fun project to deploy.

I'm looking for an example of someone having already tried something similar--but search in here so far not turning up anything.
