The new models will have DLNA and I plan to stream mkv files from my PC. How good will be the implementation of the DLNA remains to be seen and neither Sony nor Samsung have been good in this realm.

I wasn't caring for 3D but I can take it without extra cost.

Good insight - thanks.

My x-box streaming Netflix has been convenient, but slow loading and poor quality mostly. Perhaps that's the nature of streaming content overall? I would like to move off having a Live! gold account just so I can stream and let my kids game online. Monthly residuals are killing the budget in this economy.

Hummnnn....

I love that the Sony BDP-S570 plays SACDs too! DNLA, Wi-Fi, 3D, $250. Wow!!! Blu-ray is really flying gonna fly out the door now!

An interesting review of the Panasonic BD-85, European model:

For 300 quids it's a bit expensive !

Yep, and US prices too. 200 for the 65 and 300 for the 85. No mention to DLNA and what file types are supported.
For video, the 85k only lists Divx and Divx HD as video formats available via USB. An early review from the UK doesn't put that to the test. 7.1 analog audio outputs and great video.

Last year's Japanese BD60 listed DLNA support, but from the web page it seemed to be mainly for network playback of recordings made on the Panasonic DIGA DVR and a Japanese video streaming download service (actvila). I don't know if it would work with any generic DLNA server. I had wondered if the DLNA function could be unlockable in non-Japanese 2009 players, but I think that's unlikely.

We'll have to see what they do with DLNA on the upcoming 2010 models.

would I need a 3d TV to ply 3d titles or would I need just a 3d player?

I am interested in SACD capability. How good is it on this palyer? Do you guys think this player uses internal DACs or via HDMI it would use receiver's DACs acting as transport?

According to the owner's manual, and confirmed by Stereophile's Kal Rubinson while he was at CES 2010, these Sony Blu-ray players can output the native DSD bitstream using their HDMI outputs. So it's up to whatever is doing the DSD decoding on the other end of that HDMI cable....

As for internal DAC, I wonder if they will do a conversion from DSD to PCM, like Oppo's BDP-80, before output thru analog.

CNET review of LG BD570 and BD590:

http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10449166-1.html

Quote:

LG announced its new Blu-ray lineup just over a month ago at CES 2010, so we were shocked to hear we'd be getting review units in early February. The BD590 took home the Best of CES 2010 award in the home theater category for its built-in 250GB hard drive and CD-ripping functionality, and the BD570 is the more direct successor to the popular (and well-reviewed) BD390. LG says the BD570 and the BD590 will be coming in mid-March with list prices of $280 and $380, respectively. We'll be doing in-depth reviews with both of these products over the next few weeks, but we wrote up our initial impressions of the BD590's exterior design and revamped user interface.

LG BD550 and 570 are available now here: $199 and $279.99, respectively:

I'd love to hear from someone who has either model about picture and sound quality!

From what I can find is that even LG can't provide a definite retailer yet.

Sony's sonystyle.com website shows their S370 and S570 models both currently available. Also, you can download the product manuals for all 3 models (370, 470, 570).

Hopefully this answers that question:

The 3D-ready models mentioned in the release will be fully capable of 3D playback of Full HD 1080p for each eye. The players and theater systems support the HDMI 1.4 spec for 3D playback, but may not support all of the qualifications of spec (which is why we haven't labeled it specifically 1.4 at this time).

I just received my new Sony BDP-S370 from Sony Style (not interested in 3D) this morning. Will hook it up this evening after work and will report back later. Please feel free to ask any questions.

Congrats! You have the right to open the owners thread and give us your "first impressions".

Noticed the new Sony 570 does not include analog 5.1 or 7.1 any longer, is there a higher Sony model that will offer this. I am looking Oppo cause SACD but I also want netflix and wireless connection. Maybe the new Sony is exactly what I want but I need analog 5.1.

There is no player that can do Netflix/SACD/5.1 analog out. The Panasonic bd85, new Samsung and new LG have Netflix , 5.1 analog out and wireless but no SACD. Your best bet is a player+Roku box.

Thanks, I do have my PS3 which I can use for netflix and bd live stuff so maybe the oppo is my best bet then.

Question: Does Sony's 370 and 570 Blu Ray players keeps SACD discs in the DSD format when decoding, or does it convert to PCM? Also has anyone heard SACD discs on either of these? If so- how does it sound? I have an older Sony SACD player XE670 I'd like to get rid of, but if the new players don't improve or even compare, then I may end up keeping the old player still.

From page 23 of the S370's owner's manual, it looks like you can choose to have it output either DSD or PCM over HDMI.

Audio Settings>DSD Output Mode:
On>Outputs DSD signals from the HDMI OUT jack when playing a Super Audio CD. When “On” is selected, analog signals are not output when playing a Super Audio CD.

Off>Outputs PCM signals from the HDMI OUT jack when playing a Super Audio CD.

The receiver must accept DSD through HDMI . Old receivers normally don't and the player must output PCM in this case. Some receivers accept DSD but convert it to PCM anyway. My Pioneer receiver can take DSD but must be set to "pure direct" to avoid conversion. In few days I will have my 570 and can do some tests.

No I don't mean does it output DSD over HDMI. I will be using the RCA outs for audio from this deck, so I need to know if the deck itself converts to PCM in the D/A converter or not. HDMI means nothing to me.

The Sony 370/470/570 has no 5/7.1 analog out. You can only have SACD audio using HDMI , DSD or PCM. If you use the RCA you don't get SACD, period.
