Which Yamaha: RXV1900 or RXV1065?

I can get identical pricing on either the RXV1900 as a "leftover clearout" or the RXV1065. The 1900 has more power, but is basically last year's model from Yamaha vs the more current 1065. Are there any important or notable features "missing" from one or the other?

As this is an upgrade from a 10yr old 5.1 Yamaha with 100Wattsx5, I am not so concerned about gaining additional power as I am about getting the current important audio format decoding abilities and video processing/switching that I don't have today with my existing 5.1 receiver. And the best "future proofing" to hopefully get another 10yrs out of this receiver investment too

My setup is a PS3 for bluray/dvd and gaming via HDMI, and highdef satellite on HDMI, with a JVC 1080p "DILA" 56inch set, and no other video sources other than *maybe* an HD camcorder in a year or so - so it's even debatable if the HDMI video switching or the number of HDMI inputs is anything significant - I'd probably just run HDMI direct from video sources to the TV unless I need the HDMI to patch in to the receiver for audio decoding vs using the optical output on the PS3. I'm not planning to go 7 channel speakers either and just plan on keeping the existing 5 speaker setup + sub.

I used the compare tool for you. Note that it's sometimes misleading, so you have to do a bit of work to use it.

http://www.yamaha.com/yec/compare/De...&B_compare.y=2

A brief look at tells me the 1065 has a new GUI and a USB port. I did not see anything else notable. The 1900 has the same power supply as the 3900 and Z7, so it's a very nice amp. The new GUI I am sure is nice. The USB is nice if you use it.

Other than that, I have to recommend the 1900 as I am not a fan of the x65 series

Would I say the amp is much better in the 1900? Probably not. But it's highly probable it's signifacantly better. Not to mention all the features Yamaha removes with the x65 line. If you don't need analog connectivity, that probably won't bother you. It bothers me though

Ah...I couldn't find a compare tool on Yamaha's Canadian website.

Hmm from the compare tool the 1900 does NOT have HDMI pass-through? Does this mean it would be taking whatever source material comes in on HDMI and doing the upconversion in the receiver to 1080p for output to the TV? I'd prefer to have this selectable/defeatable in the receiver....

That's not what they mean by passthrough.

The 3900 can send HDMI to your TV in standbye mode, the 1900 cannot. I assume the 1065 has passthrough as well. That's the distinction.

The 1900 cannnot process HDMI video in any way - it lacks the circuitry. The 3900 can. The 1065 cannot, I assume.

So if I have my PS3 connected via HDMI to the 1900, will it pass the video signals "unmolested" to my TV? I'm not really fond of upconversion in the receiver as the TV does this automatically on its own.

And, with HDMI out of the PS3, will I get the full lossless audio formats at the receiver? What about linear PCM as I have some concert blurays that have uncompressed 5.1 audio?
