The Official Integra DTR-80.1 thread

Thread Starter

I did a search and didn't come across a thread for the Integra 80.1 yet so I am posting one now. We installed an Integra DTR-80.1 in a customers house a few weeks ago. The customer moved into a different home and we decided to update their equipment since we were moving it all and integrating it into their new old house as we would call it. The 80.1 replaced a Denon AVR-5803. They had a 9 channel setup with the Denon so we used a pair of the speakers for the front wides. I haven't had much time to play with it yet because of the holidays but I am receiving my 80.1 this coming Friday

Retail is $2,800 for the DTR-80.1

To the owners of this receiver there is a Firmware update that can be found on http://integrahometheater.com It improves Internet Radio operability and
improves picture quality for iPod/iPhone through the UP-A1

Actually just got one of these in today that I've been playing with. Pretty slick. Actually kinda makes we want to ditch the 9.8 and get the DHC-80.1 for at home as well. I do like that it appears to let you calibrate subs separately in Audyssey which is pretty cool. Haven't tried it out yet though.

My 80.1 arrived early! Yes it does calibrate the 2 subs independently. I'm looking forward to hooking it up to the network and trying out the internet radio/music server. My friend and I are going to do some room tweaking and upgrades tomorrow

I'm pretty sure I've decided on the DTR-80.1 over a comparable Denon (been a Denon owner for almost 20 years now, the "same" Denon). It seems that the Denons are a bit more expensive for what you get and the Integras are getting better reviews as far as I've read. While I need to do some final listening anyone have recommendations between the two lines?

I can get a really great deal on the DTR9.9 (last year's model) but was looking at the 80.1 as well ... for a 5.1 system is there any reason to be going with teh 80.1 over the 9.9?

Thanks,

Thanks,

I also follow the DHC 80.1 Pre/Pro thread and there was at least 1 person who stated that he could tell a marked difference between the DHC 80.1 and the (9.9 or 9.8, can't remember which one).

Unfortunately the only way to really tell is to listen for yourself. And since the Pre/Pro has no amps it doesn't take into account the differences, if any, in the Amplifiers of the DTR. But it seems like processing wise the 80.1 is better. The DACs are supposed to be better...

Hope this helps,

Can someone confirm whether the 2nd zone has a HDMI out? It's kind of hard to tell from the pic. All the spec sheets I see say (component) in the 2nd zone out field. I want to know if the 2nd zone is 1) both HDMI AND component or 2) just component.

Mine should be coming any day now. Can't wait!

The manual only refers to Composite and Component Out for Zone 2 Video.

Copy from Manual:
Hookup
• Use a composite video cable to connect the AV
receiver’s ZONE 2 OUT V jack to a composite video
input on your Zone 2 TV.
• Alternatively, use a component video cable to connect
the AV receiver’s COMPONENT VIDEO ZONE 2
OUT jacks to a component video input on your Zone 2
TV.

Notes:
• The ZONE 2 OUT V jack outputs video from compo-
nents connected to composite video only.
• The COMPONENT VIDEO ZONE 2 OUT outputs
video only from components connected to component
video inputs.

Thanks hutch. I was really starting to like the 80.1 but that might be a deal breaker for me. All of my sources (with the exception of the Wii) will be HDMI.

I don't know if this will work but "in the old days" when there wasn't upconverting I hooked up my DVD player via S-Video and Composite. When my Denon AVR-1010 sent signal via S-Video it took that input and when I was going to a Composite connection it pulled from that source. So, could you hook up multiple connections to the BD/DVD player and have it pull the appropriate source connection? I don't know and I think I'd want to test that prior to purchasing. It worked in the less complicated days. Now, who knows?

Not sure if this is the right thread for this?

I just got the 30.1. set it up last night ran all the speaker wire to my new energy take sat speaker 5.1 setup with the esw sub. I ran the audyssey setup. All looked good for the front left, center, front right and surround back right. When it hits the surround back left the audyssey stops and it can't find the surround back left speaker.

So I flipped the speakers ran the audyssey again same issue. So I figure it must be the 16 g wire. I run new wire and same issue.

Any suggestions?

I have played around with my 80.1 a bit more. Make sure if you have one or when you get one to have the current Firmware on the unit. I ran into some issues with mine and I was about to call Integra and I checked out their website and they had come out with a new Firmware update that day. It fixed the issues I had and it's working great! I hooked the receiver up to my network and the Internet radio streaming is cool to have.

Just out of curiosity the DHC 80.1 Thread talks about a "clicking" sound when the audio source changes (TV Show in Dolby to plain commercial, or fast-forwarding a movie). Have you noticed any clicking (like a relay) in these types of situations?

Yes when I change channels on my DirecTV if it goes from standard to Dolby Digital it does click.

We own the ONKYO PR-SC5507p pre-pro and we love it. Like the 80.1 it is an OUTSTANDING A/V pre-pro and while there are occasional "clicks" (we have Comcast) they are very rare and when they do happen they are hardly perceptible (occasionally occur when changing channels) and no big deal.

The ONKYO PR-SC5507p/Integra 80.1 pre-pros are a technological A/V tour de force... . Apart from the new Parasound Halo A51 and A23 power amps we recently purchased, the ONKYO is the best A/V investment we have ever made (We are using Emotiva XLR balanced cables to connect the amps to the pre-pro... they are excellent). Our audio system has never sounded this good before... never! And yes, the 5507p/80.1 sound great when just processing 2 channel analog/digital stereo.

I have not heard of anything that has an HDMI out for Zone 2 and if there is, it wouldn't be anything in the 80.1 price range. The neat thing is that you can now have the 2 HDMI outputs on simultaneously.

Are there major differences between this receiver and the Onkyo TX-NR5007? Looking at the specifications, I don't see anything major and the Onkyo is heavily discounted at reputable online stores.

Integra 80.1 has a HQV-Reon VX and the 5007 has a HQV-Reon...

Huge deal? Maybe not. As always, try to do an in-person listening/viewing...

The problem is I don't know of any stores that have both on display. In fact I haven't found a local dealer who has the 80.1 on display. I did play with a 50.1 and liked the interface. I don't know if a longer warranty and the different Reon chip justify the $1000 price differential.

I wouldnt think twice CobelAli the chips are the same hqv reon's ; the realta is the slightly different one with added cadence detection algorithms/noise reduction settings

Onkyo may have changed the specs for the TX-NR5007 because on their site it says HQV Reon, but Integra's says HQV REon VX. I checked the price for the Integra 80.1 at a couple of different authorized dealers and the maximum discount they are willing to offer is between 10 and 15% and I would have to pay sales tax of over 9%. I can buy The Onkyo from authorized online dealers for less than $1900 shipped. I don't think I'll see $1000 difference between these two receivers. I can put the money towards a pair of Paradigm Studio 100s

Good move ; speakers tend to last longer than electronics especially with new models all the time Click on the hqv mate its the current chip no worries;

Curious if anyone has compared the audio processing of the Integra unit or the Onkyo 5007 to the Arcam 600? I know that I had a chance to do an in home demo of the Integra 9.8 (matched with a emotiva amp) to the Arcam. There was a discernable difference in sound using the Arcam (as one would hope for the price) vs the Integra unit (great bang for the buck). The Arcam's ability to pan, image and reveal detail and nuances in a soundtrack is heads and tails about that combination (not to mention what it does to the bass-tighter bass with texture to the bass notes that aren't there with the other combination). That being said, there is a league of difference in the price too.

I wondering if the new Integra/Onkyo products have lessen the gap?? I would be interested in hearing from others who have compared these units...

Thanks
Ron

I am looking to replace my Marantz 8801 and looking at the 4810 or the Integra 80.1 How do you Integra owners feel about the 80.1?

Thanks in advance,
Ken
I was in the market for a new AVR since one of my rear channels blew on my Marantz SR-19. I have always been a huge fan of Marantz so I fully intended to stick with a new Marantz. When researching and shopping the Marantz line didn't have some of the newer features offered by other manufacturers. After a lot of convincing by my local HIFI House dealer I decided on the Integra DTR 80.1.

I have 9 B&W speakers and a paradigm sub. Obviously Audyssey DSX was something I was interested in. I was skeptical about Audyssey, but no longer. In regards to movies I am completely blown away by what the Integra can do. I have absolutely no reservations in recommending the Integra if movies are your thing. Personally I am about 60 - 40 leaning towards movies. As far as two channel audio the Marantz still sounds better. I know it is cliche', but the Marantz sounds more natural...hard to explain. That being said I am still tweaking the Integra, which is improving the sound. If music is more you thing I would recommend Marantz, but the Integra is no slouch there either.

I know I rambled a bit without much substance. Let me know if you have any specific questions. I have had the receiver for about a month now.

Things I love
Audyssey MultiEq XT, Audyssey Dynamic EQ (really helps sound at low level),
Audyssey DSX
Being Networked is great...especially when completing the firmware update
Movie experience is far superior with the additional channels and Audyssey

Things I don't like
Not much...music is a bit...bright...but I am improving that every day.
Um...that's about it.
