Congrats on getting one of them up and running. You have me scared man. I told my wife this thing wasnt going to be much louder than my current diy sub. But by the reaction you gave i can tell this is not a true statement . So when are the finishing touches going to be applied? I am jealous of you, but maybe i can make some noise with mine very soon!

The correct wording for the wife is not LOUDER. Tell her it won't play louder, but instead it will play material so 'we' can hear it like the director/composer intended (that's what Reference Level is anyway, right?)...make it sound like you are after the director/composer's true 'vision' of the work...not just pure, clean volume...

Oh, and do experiment with placement and measure, measure, measure....

Yeh, it's definitely going to be louder. I think you tuned your subs around 17hz didn't you? I'd imagine your new build will have much more kick in the higher bass range.

Yea 17hz tune with 20hz hpf. No joke you guys are going to laugh at me for this. But i built my THT because i wasnt happy anymore with my bass output. But when i first built my old sub i was extatic about it and was really impressed at the response. My family and i went away on a working vactaion for 2 months. I come home and the first thing i do is pop in my favortie BD and its absolutely nothing like i remebered. It was wierd. Well today i removed the old sub in preperation for the new one and to my surprise i look at the amp gain and its turned all the way down just barely above the minimum haha. Dont ask me how, who, or why but it had to be a very EVIL phantom of some sorts who turned it down. Maybe the wife but dont think shed have a clue at all. I never thought to check the gain or retune the system because the amp was on the back of the box up against a wall so how the heck could it change if I DIDNT DO IT. So anywho i may have just built this for nothing because i WAS happy with my old sub tuned properly. Anyway sorry AIR for putting this OT post . I just thought it was kind of funny.

Those things are ridiculously huge haha. So 2 is over kill huh? I test fired mine in the garage just with some sine waves. Everything was rattling around but it wasnt impressive im hoping in room will be another story. Any final word on the finishes? Im using ruberized undercoating on mine. The first few coats are drying right now.

I just messed my box up pretty up bad. I had the stuff drying it LOOKED great. But the garage only being half cracked wasnt cutting it for thefumes so i opened it all the way and water fell on the box. It made huge runs down the side of the box so i tried to dab it off where it was the worst in the top left corner and the udercoating stuck to the cloth and ripped off a huge 5"x6" patch. I highly doubt now that i will be able to fix it even close to decent looking. So i may just be making a huge speaker cloth sock for this thing. I hope yours come out great man i dont wish this crap on anyone.

I don't think you will need the direct corner loading.

Also what are you going to do with that front left main? The new subs are going to kill the SQ from it in that position.

Does your wife normally get mad at the drop of a hat, or is it a loud noise hatred thing?

Thats what i tried but the coating stuck to the cloth and peeled off the box. So what im left with is 4 decent size runs and 3 bare spots. Im going to try tomorrow sanding and masking around the bare spots and seeing if i cant get a good enough build up and blend it in. Its just a pain in the ass. So next time ill just order the DURATEX and roll it on and leave it. The fumes shouldnt be bad like an aerosol spray can.

She never will get it either. My wife doesnt watch movies with me unless i keep the volume super low. So you could imagine we dont watch many movies together haha.

Well if it dries that hard it shouldnt be that bad of a problem to fix. Im just worried when i start sanding it that it will flake and i wont be able to get a good blend.

Any surfaces around the mains are bad. The subs seem to be positioned to bank sound directly into the seating area though. There should be a lot of combfiltering going on.

In truth most people will never notice it, so don't worry about it. It was a reactionary post.

I can't wait for your listening impressions once you get a chance to really "put the spurs to em' " (...the subs that is...).

BTW that "THT Tower" looks insane...............I like it.

Do you have another place in the theater that you can place those? Maybe in a back corner? I realize that some people don't like that but it's worth a try. If you turn the X-over down a bit it won't be so directional. Either way, they look sweet man!

Testing would be very nice, I can only imagine the output you are getting...I would bet you are running the subs pretty damned hot compared to the mains if -22 made someone run away...

I guess this is why horn main speakers are usually recommended with these subwoofers, the efficiency of a horn sub is hard to keep up with for most non horn speakers unless you got some substantial amplification to the mains.

Where would you put the mic when testing one of these? At the outlet?
