Issues with my new setup

Hello,

so I got this setup:
-TSC's 2 TST1 in front, 1 TC2 in center, 1 T100 as a sub, and 2 TS-B for the rear.
- HK 254 AVR for the receiver.
- 14WG cables + golden banana plugs from monoprice

I have done the EZQ auto-calibration (and man that was a pain!, I hope my neighbors don't hate me)

My first issue is that most of the sound is coming from the center channel. It is a bit better if I de-activate the EZQ and if I change from Auto mode to Music mode... With them when I listen to the 2 TST1, I hear a lot of noise / wind, with a bit of the real sound. As this is my first setup maybe I don't understand how a 5.1 system works, but the tower being bigger and more expensive I expect them to handle more than the central speaker (am I wrong?).

Also I hear mostly bass, even if I deactivate the sub, it is still a lot of bass. It feels like music is pretty shallow, lacking something... not sure how to describe it... but for now it is not worth the money invested, though I am pretty sure it is my fault for not doing something right.

I would really appreciate any help here...

Thanks

I've just called HK for any tips, and the tech guy said:

- try to disconnect / reconnect the wires
- EZQ, which is actually making it worse.
- Resetting the AVR.

if not I have to call back when I am in front of the setup, but I may to wait for Saturday for that since by the time I get home they are close

I'm not familiar with EZQ specifically, but many auto-EQ/room-correction software implementations improperly set the front LR speakers to "large" when they should almost always be set to "small" regardless of their size and capabilities. Does EZQ give you the ability to view/orride it's settings?
As for the center, how much work it does should depend on the material you're listening to and the mode you're listening to it in. If properly set up for 5.1, the center will handle most if not all of the dialogue... If you set the HK for "stereo" mode, then the center should shut off, and the LR will get a good workout...

I have played with the EQ, setup everything manually as you suggest and as people told me to do in the HK topic, and it seems a lot better.

Thank you!

Also I do not feel much coming from the rear speakers, could it be because right now they are on the floor, mostly blocked by a couch? or is it because the other speakers just outclass them?

The reason you don't hear much from the surround speakers is that there isn't that much coming from them, unless you listen to multi-channel music or watch concert DVDs. When you watch a movie, most (80-90%) of the sound comes from the front 3 speakers. And of that 80-90%, 80-90% of that comes from the center channel.

Do you have a video game console i.e. xbox 360 or PS3? Most games have a lot of surround information in them. They are a good way of seeing if you are getting the right level and sound out of your rear speakers.

Yeah I have come to realize that, which kind of saddens me that I have spent more on the left and right than the center one (not that much more but still)...

no console, but if you know of any PC I'll gladly try it

Also, I have just hooked my surround to the walls, they used to be on the floor behind my couch ( ), but still, even in 5ch stereo mode I feel that they are weaker than the front. I'll have to still play with this a bit.
