Hello,

Are the HF21 and HG21 the same camcorder under a different name?

If they are not the same, which is a better one?

so far I've found very little info on the HF21.

Please help.

They are not the same. The HF11, HG20 and HG21 have the same optics, etc. I believe the HF21 is in the same family as the HF20 and HF200 - smaller sensor, new Digic III, etc.

Which one is better is up for debate. The newer models have better bright light performance, facial recognition and better OIS but the older models have better low-light performance.

I read the HF21 has a low light mode so I am going to pick this one up tonight.

Thanks for the reply.

I bought the HF21 last night. Bestbuy had the HF21 on sale for the same price as the HF20 for $799.99 so I figured double the internal memory is worth it.

This thing is awesome in daylight. I saw no problems when viewing it on my Samsung 8500. The detail is amazing. I recorded everything i could this morning from moving cars to a tree being blown pretty hard by the wind. When viewing the video, there were no noticeable fuzziness or grains.

The low light performance on this is average. I recorded video outside with the low light mode on about 15 minutes after sunset and the video is slightly fuzzy when you record moving. Indoor with just 2 fluorescent lamps, the video quality is just as good as if you were recording in daylight.

I'm pretty happy with the HF21 but if the HF20 was cheaper, I would have bought that instead.

Hope this helps for people that are considering the HF21.
