Hulu Performance - Mac mini

This may have already been covered, but I couldn't find anything. I've been using a mac mini as an HTPC for about 6 months or so. Specs are:

1.66 Ghz Intel Core Duo
2GB DDR2
Snow Leopard

I've got it hooked up to a 1080p display, and everything works perfectly except for hulu. I use plex to play .mkv files and also stream with netflix. The video is perfectly smooth on everything, except hulu where it's jittery. I've tried both the hulu desktop and streaming through Safari and the results are the same. Bandwidth isn't the issue, as the buffer is always full. Is there anything that can be done to fix this?

Adobe could fix the problem by releasing a properly coded version of flash or Apple could solve the problem by providing Adobe with an API for accelerated video on the Mac. Until then the only solution is more horsepower.

Apple has provided APIs for video acceleration.

How is it setting the resolution at 720p?

Agreed.

Divo84, I'm surprised you're able to play back 1080p .mkv with Plex on such an old 1.66 CD and not noticeably drop frames. The acceptability cutoff for me seems to be around a 2.0 C2D...

And Hulu can be a problem on 1.83-2.0 C2D machines with 4GB RAM...so it's not surprising your 1.66 chokes a bit. Once you rule out a network issue, there's nothing you can do except trade up.

My 2GB 1.83 mini runs Hulu at 720p without a hiccup.

Yeah, honestly I'm surprised that everything works as well as it does. Hulu is the only minor inconvenience. And honestly it's watchable, my wife has never complained, but I'm a perfectionist so it irritates me a bit.

That's open for interpretation. Even some of the Plex guys are not buying into it.

"QuickTime has had hardware decoding for some time now - of course Apple won't open up the APIs to allow it for anything but their software, so we're somewhat buggered there."
