Can a thumbdrive play video on Dish Networks' VIP722DVR?

My parents have a VIP722DVR through Dish Network, and I was hoping to bring a usb thumb drive with home video to play this Holiday. Does anyone know if this is possible, or do I need my Xbox 360 to play movies? Also, is there any particular format that will work better if the VIP722DVR will play movies directly from a thumb drive?

Thanks in advance!

No. Playback from a thumbdrive is not a feature supported by any cable or satellite DVR.

You'll need to use your Xbox360.
