Reasonably-priced pre/pro or receiver with component video outputs?

Figure around the price of Outlaw 990 is the max I'm willing to spend.

Story is, I want something that'll take the HDMI signal from my PS3 and convert it to a good component signal quicklike. I've tried hooking my PS3 to the HDMI in port of a 2-3 year old Panny 42" and response-time games like SF4 were nearly unplayable single player and completely unplayable online due to input delay.

Would getting a good pre/pro to use as a DAC for the PS3 be faster than the direct HDMI connection to the tv itself, since it seems ok with component and composite inputs? Seems like it would more likely than not, but I'm not entirely sure.

Anyway, seems like every pre/pro these days has only HDMI or DVI out, and I'd strongly prefer using a good DAC to an analog output to reduce input lag. Any thoughts?

Midfi,

I suspect the problem is primarily in your TV. My guess is that it's a 720p display. If it is, it needs to convert the PS3's 1080p output to 720p. That introduces the lag that you see. You need to replace it with a 1080p display that doesn't have to do that video input format conversion.

You are out of luck with regard to HDMI to component conversion. The studios do not want you to convert high quality HDMI/HDCP (which cannot be recorded) to high quality component video (which can be recorded), so the licensing for the HDMI chipsets doesn't allow the equipment manufacturers to provide it.

Most PS3 games are 720p.

Since component video gives you superior playability, why not go with that?

+1
Just use straight component connections. Most AVR/AVPs do not convert HDMI to analog - and only a few advertise as being able to - the Emotiva UMC-1 is the only one I know of - and it can't pass HTCP copyrighted content to analog.
