3ft vs 6ft HDMI cable....any loss?

You guys already helped me a bunch with cable stuff, but I have a simple question that I can't google an answer to.

Is there any difference in performance between using a 3 foot and an equivalent 6 foot HDMI cable?

I know there are performance issues with longer runs from what I have read, but does doubling the length of a cable when under say 10 or 12 feet make any difference?

I can get away with 3 feet cables I think but I rather use some 6 footers for flexibility and in case I do end up mounting the TV (having stud issues with this wall, and we're renting so options are limited).

You won't see any difference between a 3 foot or 6 foot cable.

Thank you.

I was just wondering why they even sold such short lengths like 1 and 2 and 3 foot ones, but I'm guessing it's more about clutter than anything else...

...and you save a few $$$.

No clutter is a good thing but to be safe always plan a little extra length just in case something changes.

Several years back, when adding a YPbPr switcher to my setup, I shopped the Internet for <3' YPbPr cables and bought several. That's because my then CRT RPTV developed artifacts (flickering in high-contrast image areas) with two ~6' component cables needed for each hookup path. Using one <3' cable with a 6' cured the problem--apparently slightly too much capacitance for higher frequencies.

A test pattern might show slight differences for resolution approaching ~1920, but my only source back then was a DVRed HDNet resolution-wedge pattern that only provided ~1300 lines maximum horizontal effective resolution on the 9"-gun RPTV. My current 1080p plasma shows ~1440 lines from that HDNet pattern, but a full 1920X1080 from a Blu-ray test disc. -- John
