Newbie looking for a push in the right direction

Hi everyone - I just stumbled on these forums and like the good information I'm seeing! Hopefully you guys can help me out as well! I'm looking for an HTiB that makes sense for what I need.

I just got a Samsung 46" 1080p LED HDTV (Model # UN46B6000VF). Now, I'm looking to actually get started on the home theater stuff. I'm not really an audiophile so I should be pretty easy to please as far as the sound quality goes. I don't have much of a budget (maybe $500 max) and I think going the route of HTiB seems to be the right way to go.

The house that I bought is already wired for surround sound so I won't need wireless. It also has 2 outdoor speakers that are wired in as well. My goal is to be able to tie this in to the picture. From what I've been learning, I think I need something that lets me do "zones" to be able to set it up so I can maybe have the game on in the living room, but have music playing outside for instance.

Other information that might be pertinent - I have digital cable, a regular DVD player (older unit - not Blu-Ray and I'm not in dire need of it at this time), and a Wii. I plan to watch movies from a USB drive (mostly AVI with some MOV, and DivX) that I currently connect to the TV, but can connect to the HTiB if that makes more sense. And finally, I have an MP3 player (not an iPod) that I would like to be able to connect to the home theater as well. Eventually, I would like to stream from my laptop to an extender to play music instead of the MP3 player.

All said, what might be some good HTiB units to look at? Reading through, I saw that someone recommended the ONKYO HT-S6200 7.1-Channel Black Home Theater System for someone else with a similar setup and I found that on Newegg for $550. If that makes sense, I'll go above the budget for that, but if you know of something that fits my purposes and is a little less expensive, I would love for the feedback.

Hopefully, that's not too much info... like I said, I'm new at this - but a fast learner!! Thanks for the help!

Well, I wouldn't say it would need to be at the same time, but it would be cool to be able to sit outside and cookout with friends while listening to music outside while the kids are inside playing the Wii. If it makes all the difference, though, I would say it's a "want" more than a "need."

Hmmm... that's a good question - not really sure what that means. How do I know?

Does the 6200 allow you to listen to two different things at the same time? And do you think it's the best option or are there other units that would work well and be a little less expensive?

Thanks!

this is your best option that i know of. you could always add a sonos system down tha road, that would be ideal. with the sonos added you could control the music through you ipod touch or iphone.

Checked out your home theater - that's impressive!

Thanks for your help. If you (or anyone else) think of anything else that might also work as well, please let me know.

Thanks!
