Washington, DC / MD / NOVA - Comcast

This is the correct thread in which to discuss Comcast issues affecting DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia.

For some reason, Comcast doesn't keep its online cable box channel lists up to date.

And they don't choose to list QAM channel assignments, not even those they must legally provide (see http://www.ehow.com/how_5417083_hd-c...s-comcast.html on how to receive them). To a limited extant, using a QAM tuner (sometimes called a cable ready tuner) lets you see some channels you would otherwise have to pay extra to see if using a cable box.

I'm afraid if I post the actual lists on-line Comcast will get mad and change the QAM channel # assignments. But if anyone wants my list, obtained by hand over the last several days, for Prince George's County, MD (Lanham office), send me a message.

don't worry about posting the QAM lineup, they are posted in the Washington DC Comcast tread

OK

Since there are a lot of channels (e.g., almost 200 QAM channels), here is a link

I'm glad someone posted a list but I see something that my tv does not pick up. Does anyone know 1) why they have 84-1 remap to 7-31 for wjla and 2) why my toshiba does not see the SD versions of The Comcast Network, Versus, Comcast Sportsnet, TBS, or ESPN2? When I manually enter 84-1 it remaps to 7-31. When I check the signal, it shows 7-31, 9-32, 22-34, 47-38, and 66-37.

I just reformatted the above link to be easier to use, and made some corrections.

mdviewer25, I don't know enough to answer your questions.

The channel-subchannel designations I used were obtained by a Panasonic DVD recorder. I am guessing the resolution (SD vs HD) based soley on the channel names, or logos that appear on screen. I'm sure some of my guesses are wrong.

But I have heard that Comcast remaps QAM channels differently in different nearby cities. So if you don't have the line-up from the Lanham office (I live in College Park), the list I gave you may be useless.

Maybe what QAM channels you get depends on your channel line-up? In my case, the available clear QAM channels are a subset of the cable box channels - so using QAM simply makes it easier to use a VCR or DVD recorder.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

@mdviewer25, I have the same problem as you do. I think I understand a little bit of what is going on. My Panasonic TV successfully remaps the *local* channels on channel 84 to their correct positions, but then it gets confused by the remaining non-local cable channels like ESPN2 and TBS that are also on channel 84. I believe that Comcast is required to transmit the "PSIP" channel mapping information for local stations. If some stations like TBS are not local, they don't have the PSIP data, and perhaps they just kind of disappear!
