Favorite Moments in Gaming

Thread Starter
I was recently reading some articles on the best games of the year and I started thinking about my favorite moments in gaming. Although the game is recent, I absolutely loved the train level in Uncharted 2. I felt completely immersed in the game, and the action was intense! Another one would have to be the final boss battle in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I do not think anything will ever top fighting Ganondorf/Ganon and then fleeing from that castle.

What about you guys? Do you have some favorite moments that you look back on? Maybe getting 9 kills with a TOW missle in Warhawk, or a Super Mario speedrun? This could easily be a game that you didn't enjoy in its entirety, but one level or section was epic.

The whole sniper mission in COD4 especially when the tanks and foot soldiers are rolling right past you. Man that was intense.

Uncharted 2 I loved the helicopter chase while your running through the building, I almost broke my thumbstick trying to run and make that jump!

All of MGS4.

Playing my first RPG ever in Final Fantasy on NES.

Being introduced to digital boobs and sex as a teen playing Leisure Suit Larry on the PC.

Finding out for the first time that the princess was in another castle.

Cutting school to play my first arcade addiction in Street Fighter 2.

Playing Gran Turismo for the first time on Playstation.

Maybe you need to limit this to favorite moments in Playstation gaming?

For me it'd have to be the ending to Metal Gear Solid. Frustratingly hard but worth it.
Yeah, the first scene, in uncharted 2 was jaw dropping!
Returning to shadow moses in MGS4,....I'll have to sit down and think about all those moment,...
Too many to list all of them. But some that occur to me off the bat:

The opening tram sequence in Half Life.

First time playing rocket launchers in multiplayer in Goldeneye 007 in the temple level.

First time seeing level 1-1 in Super Mario Bros.

First time doing the leap of faith in Assassin's Creed.

Playing the opening sequence to Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.

Seeing the second boss in Shadow of the Colossus.

The Sephiroth battle in Final Fantasy 7.

The ending sequence of Assassin's Creed 2.

The trials quests in Morrowind.

Getting my mount in World of Warcraft.

Final Fantasy 7.

Plenty of great moments, but one of my favorites has to be playing Resident Evil for the first time. I remember playing the game at night, with a few friends looking on... then the zombie dogs blasted through the window and we all jumped a mile. Still one of the scariest moments in any game.

wow this thread makes me feel old...how about
placing triple action so much that i could bounce the bullet halfway around the course and kill the other tank
playing tron on intellivision
super mario bros
MGS
goldeneye
mario kart multiplayer
nba jam
battletoads
and finally one of the greatest racing games ever bump n jump..
Too many good moments.

One of the best has to be playing Ocarina Of Times on the N64 the Christmas I got it. I need to hook up my N64 again to replay it again.

For the Playstation's only moments I'd say the whole SoTC experience, Sepiroth's Final Battle in FF7, the ending/story of FFX, etc...

Playing twisted metal for the first time on ps1. Man We must have played for 2 days straight!!
My first time playing Twisted Metal was also quite memorable. We played through the night as the snow outside kept coming down. The macabre nature of the game perfectly set the mood.

Non-PlayStation gaming moments that provided a very memorable experience include:

Seeing and playing a Killer Instinct arcade machine for the first time
Collecting all 120 stars in Super Mario 64
The many GoldenEye multi-player sessions
Discovering the "Second Quest" in the original The Legend of Zelda
post #12 of 128
A Link to the Past - beating Agahnim. "WTF? It's not over? And I'm a bunny now?"
Man, SO many.... For now:

- The train level in Uncharted 2. Never seen anything like that before, just jaw dropping.

- The first time I played Madden on the Sega Genesis. "All eleven players??? WOW!!!!"

- The first time I got attacked by a Vampire in "Gateway to Apshai" on my Coleco Adam! Man they were fast!

Don't worry. Some of us just can't remember that far back too good these days.

I suppose I could have said something like "after waiting 2hrs for it to load, seeing the boot screen for Tunnels of Doom on the TI-99," but that'd just be the crazy ramblings of some old man. Man, those cassette tape games sure made some beautiful noises while they were loading.
in the first resident evil in the very start...you walk past the windows and nothing happens but when you walk past again the zombies break the glass.....my cousin was sitting on the floor with his legs under a glass table he jumped so high his knees lifted the table of the ground...classic

"all ghillied up" in cod 4

being the first one in school with stryder for genesis and being amazed at the graphics and music

when they set the nuke off in kz2

seeing my 70 year old father laughing uncontrollably playing wii bowling

Super Tecmo Bowl -

taking the worst team in the game, the New England Patriots all the way to the Super Bowl vs. superteam San Francisco 49ers.

I managed to build up a lead, but the Montana to Rice connection heated up in the second half and I lost the lead.

Last play of the game, I dropped a checkdown pass to the N.E. tight end and managed to juke his molasses-footed ass about 30 yards into the endzone for the upset to end all video game upsets.

Also - playing abbreviated seasons of NHL 95 with my roommates and some other friends in college. We had upwards of 9 teams going some seasons. We played 7 seasons (all for a little money and a lot of pride) and I won the Stanley Cup all 7 times with a myriad of teams. Redwings, Rangers, Blues, Sabres.....even the Hartford Whalers one year.

We had a small trophy that I would drink cheap beer out of after every Stanley Cup victory. And we'd all eagerly anticipate the Awards Ceremony because we had money on that, too.

A couple of those Stanley Cup victories went down to some seriously intense Game 7s, but my guys always came through in the clutch.

Getting my Epic 1 and 1.5, and Finishing Vex Thal, and plane of time in Everquest

downing stupid Ragnaros (server first) in World of Warcraft

downing stupider C'Thun (server first) in world of warcraft

Beating Original Zelda the first time

Beating Rampage on NES the first time (congraturations!)

Platinuming Demon's Souls finally

and a lot of other things people here already said

And the best of all time was getting stoned as **** and playing RUSH stunt runs for N64 with my friend Pete

That certain scene in Phantasy Star 2 that people seem to forget was much more interesting than the equivalent scene in Final Fantasy VII.

Finally BEATING Phantasy Star 2 (that game was brutal).

Playing the first Phantasy Star Online with a Dreamcast and a very difficult to obtain broadband adapter - Diablo gameplay with crazy SciFi stuff was super addicting.

Playing NiGHTS - really, that game deserves all the accolades it's gotten.

The absolute beauty of the first level of Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast.

The absolute insanity of Crazy Taxi on the Dreamcast.

Come to think about it, the DC had way too many good games (most went unnoticed by everyone because of Playstation 2 hype).

All the weirdness of Eternal Darkness on the 'cube.

The Matrix-ification of Metal Gear Solid on the 'cube (hilarious).

Wing Commander 2 - pretty much all of it.

King's Quest 5 - all the graphics were jaw dropping at the time.

Obtaining my copy of Radiant Silvergun for the Saturn. Man, I can catch INSANE prices for that game to this day, but I will NEVER part with it - it's a sublime experience.
I don't want to sit here making a list so I'll just name stuff as I think of it.

The first ten minutes of Beyond Good & Evil.
God of War............the whole game within reason, lol. I am playing this right now for the first time and I cant believe how awesome it is..........truly one of the best gaming experiences I have ever had. There were parts playing last night in the Temple with these rolling fire balls you had to dodge and it felt like a MUCH better and fully interactive Dragons Lair.......then you battle the Minotaur........... This game is killer!

christmas day, 1986 maybe? NES, playing super mario. i would've been 6.

playing DOOM for the first time at a friends house for a sleepover. i was maybe 13, 12? so around 1992?

playing the first Gran Turismo. i sampled a day or so before at a friends house, and convinced him to let me borrow his playstation and the game while i was on out-of-school suspension for organizing and starting a HUGE food fight. 1999.

finally beating Ares in God of War I. longest boss battle ever.

oh yeah, i should probably throw in watching/playing Mortal Kombat at the baseball card store up the street. not sure when that was, ~1990 probably.
Also, Beating Final Fantasy 1

That game was a bastard (when I was 10 years old LOL)

Losing the "VS." fight to a buddy at the end of the arcade version of "Double Dragon" after spending over $5 in quarters to get to the end...

Staying up all night at a sleep over to beat the Sega CD game "Night Trap" (a Dragon Lair of sorts but with real footage... ...acted out badly) and marveling at a game that had "full video" in it.

Beating Monkey Island on the PC (14mhz 286.)

Reading about and discovering the first "Easter Egg" in a game in FF1 (numbers puzzle game on the opening credits screen.)

Killing all 9 pirates in FF1 with one "Fire level 2" spell to gain the ship.

Beating Super Mario Brothers.

The train intro of FF7 (then reliving it on the PSP prequal many years later.)

Zelda OOT - all of it.

The Soundtrack from Chrono Cross

I remember starting many a college night by playing "drink techmo bowl"... but I don't remember the rest of those nights.

some of my friends convinced me to skip class in high school to play that, and it was the first time i'd ever played a 4 player game...that one is up there.
Ooooohh, YOU were the one that played that!!!! LOL!!

1. Waking up after the weekly WoW PvP update to being the High Warlord on my server

2. Camping the Commander Rune spawn in Shadowbane and getting jumped by an assassin and confessor and killing them both.

3. Camping the Froglok Shin Lord in Upper Guk (Everquest) for 12 hours with a full group to get Ghoulbane. (soulfire/fiery avenger quest)

4. Getting my first Nuke in MW2.

5. The opening scene to Uncharted 2

I'm sure there are more but that's what comes to mind.

Ok fine, I'm in for some non-PS moments. lol

One of my favs is the end battle in Super Metroid. The pounding you took...and then the pounding you dished after you got the laser weapon. Oh man talk about goose bumps. I still get misty-eyed when thinking about the sacrifice that Metroid made for me. lol
