I would build it like a dead vent -- use oversized flex duct and snake it back and forth a few times in a MDF case. Can you get access above the ceiling?

No real easy access. I would have to do some major demo to get to it. I'm afraid if I just hack it a bit I may regret it or it may interfere with how I would do it correctly.

I think if I built a mdf elbow muffler that I could push up into a hole I cut it would be the best idea. First I'll just cut the size hole I would use and then test with just the hole to determine how far I wanted to go with the construction.

Anyone in the area able and willing to build my treatment frames and upper column speaker covers for some $$$. I just keep putting it of again and again.

I hope to get all the wiring done and programmed this weekend.

I wish i could. But alas, too many of my own projects!

Well I got my programming done about 93% Replaced my second Directv receiver with a newer one. Replaced my bluray player with a Panasonic BD55 which I had for almost a year waiting to get hooked up. Installed my server and got it running Cleaned up 85% of my wiring on the rack. Also got my Control4 streamer up and going. I still have a Popcorn hour C200 that I havent used yet but I will get that nailed down later.

Right now I am playing around trying to figure out the best way to get my rips to play and backup. I'll see where that goes

I am going to get ahold of the helper that I used earlier in the build to see if he can do the framing for my acoustical panels and some misc items soon.

So I am 98% sure I am going to build a HTPC to do my streaming. Then to stream to other rooms I will use a xbox360 using WMP. By doing this I can stream dvd, bluray, home videos, HDTV, cable, and photos. On top of that I can use online video rental streaming as well.

I came to this conclusion because I have a dvd changer, Control4 streamer, and PC that does not have proper backup doing all of these items. It would create so much confusion on where to look for a movie/tv for my wife that she would be furious. The Control4 streamer cant output HDMI and component/DA at the same time so I would have to use just the Component hook up and also it does not support menus, HD audio, and has limited bluray playback.

This should resolve all of those issues into a simple streaming process.
What format do you have to rip in to be able to play DVD's on the 360? I've started experimenting with ripping dvds, but the 360 WMC wont play all the same formats that WMC on the PC will.

I dont currently know. My idea is to rip iso and mkv but I cannot confirm that they work personally but they were recommended to me by someone that has done this for some time.
Keep me posted when you figure it out. I'm only ripping DVD's for now as i dont have a blu ray drive for my PC. I just wanted to digitize my DVD collections so i could put the disks in storage, plus to cool factor of..."hey check it out...all muh DVD's are on the computer"

I havent tried MKV or ISO yet, I did a straight DVD rip and one other thing (cant remeber now) Both played through WMC on the PC but would not on the 360.
Are you trying to keep the menus and extras, or just the main movie?
I dunno about adam, but mostly i just want an easy way to browse through the movies (being able to see their covers) and just watch them...menus would be nice...but not necessary.

Sorry. Some how I missed that more posts were on here. Some I want to do full menu rips but most of them I only want the movie and best audio tracks.

Ordered my HTPC parts today and will have it going soon. Here is the newegg list

I also have my thumb drive to install UNRAID on my NAS. I will take the hard drive out of the existing system and use it for my new one.

The reason i haven't built a PC in 3 years, is because the one I have is 3 years old. My problem is one of finance, not time.

The company that services our businesses ended up trading for some work and I got my HTPC built. I am probably going to pick it up today if I have time. I still need to find some rack mount ears for it but shouldnt be too hard. Then I should be able to wrap up my rack and get it put back into its place and move on with the theater.

I also realized that using my Denon receiver for vertical stretching is a PITA!!! I think I am either going to have to use the DVDO scaler again or buy another projector........... Projector it is!!!! I think I will wait until the new models are released later this year though. Maybe JVC will offer a nice 3d projector
post #679 of 840
Any updates? Its been a while since we've seen some pics! I had been quietly following your build for a while, and patiently waiting to see how those columns look once completed with the top areas covered. How else am I going to decide if I'm going to be stealing your design!?!

Seriously though, room looks incredible. Hope by the time I'm done (in many years) it is half as nice as the theaters seen on a regular basis around this place!

Well, I'd love to say a bunch has gotten done but I'd be lying. I have been trying to get my HTPC all running and then to start ripping my movies to my NAS. I have been having the worst time trying to get my HTPC functional. It is currently back at the business that assembled it for the 4th time because it keeps crashing at random times and they cannot figure it out. This is so frustrating that I can't believe how long it is taking and how much time and effort I have so far wasted into it. I hope to have it resolved in the upcoming week so that I can finish my rack and get that all tied up. Once that is done I plan to hire someone to help finish the details and I would say that paying someone that knows what their doing for a week should get almost everything wrapped up.

I havent posted new pics because there really isnt anything new to show.

Thanks for the compliments though.
Been following this build since its inception. Great work so far, I can't wait to see the finished product. Any updates on the HTPC front? Are you going with one of the new JVCs for your projector solution?

I am on the preorder for a RS40 and am anxious to get it. The HTPC is up an running but I still need to get my Server going and am having some issues getting logged on. Hopefully soon. I have been pondering replacing my tv setup in my living room as well but that may wait. I think in the coming month or two I may hire someone to do some of the finishing work to the theater since I am unable to get to it and with the holidays coming up it wont give me anymore time than I already have.

This 3D bug is working out to my benefit. I scored an awesome deal on the Denon 4311 so I will have 1.4 switching. Sucks to downgrade a bit but I have my front stage running from the Emotiva amp. I may add another for extra measure. My Behringer amp took a **** on me and is completely dead so I need to get that warrantied ASAP. I can't wait to finally have 3D on my huge screen. I am also going to upgrade my living room to a Samsung 58" plasma. I still dont know what I want to do for speakers up there so I will leave my Yamaha soundbar there for now.

Finally some progress.

First I made one of the speaker covers to see how easy it would be. It turned out ok. It bows in because of the stretching I did so I will most likely use a rigid screen on the remaining ones to keep it from doing so. Otherwise a simple trim piece to cover the seam and they will look great. In the dark you can't see the brown behind the speaker cloth.

Before cloth

After cloth

Also, I got my server installed in its permanent location in the utility room since it is so loud and the HTPC installed in the rack. No pics there. I got the UNRAID going on the server and am ripping movies to try it out. I've had a few hiccups but it is finally going.

I also got the Oppo BDP-93 in and am contemplating selling it actually. Since I want to use my HTPC for everything and have already ordered a 3D video card the 93 seems like it wont get used much. I'll decide here within a day or two I guess.

I tried installing the rope light clips but will need some serious glue to get it to stay correctly.

Finally some progress though

You have the Oppo -93? How do you like it? I didn't realize it was out yet.

It's not officially out yet. They did a pre release with software that will eventually need upgraded. It's still sealed in the box but I'm sure I would love it if I used it although I'm just not sure if I will and if I sell it I'm sure it would bring more still sealed.

AHA! I am working to move to streaming (both from Netflix and from BRs on my server using a popcorn hour). I'm not sure I could do without a BR stand alone player. It is really easy to pop in a BR and press play, particularly when a friend brings over a BR that we watch in the theater.

Agreed but I already have a stand alone bluray player. It just doesnt do 3D. Maybe I should just get over it and use it and sell the old one just in case I want to play a 3D without downloading it.

Just picked up my new projector. The new 3D JVC. I'm so excited. I also ordered some XpanD glasses to compare to the JVC glasses. I also picked up the new Denon 4311ci so I can send 3D signal through my receiver. I hope to have it temporarily set up tonight but we'll see.
