Monster "Clean Power" Worth It? - Page 2

The question is: do we even need the extra that is being done? And the answer to that question is back in the first response to the OP.

For the prices that Monster Cables charges on their surge products, you could by a quality APC battery "Back-UPS" system and not only clean-up your power source, you'd be able to watch television when there is a power outage.

I 100% TOTALLY DISAGREE! They do not make "garbage" by any stretch of the definition. There product QUALITY is actually quite nice!
HOWEVER, yes, it is totally overpriced. If Monster were to take their msrps and cut them 50% across the board, they would still be overpriced for what you can get comparable products for.
I usually pick up monster stuff at 90% OFF of msrp when I buy a cable or two.
Their surge protectors sure are purty though!!!

Chris
Ps Oh, to the original poster, no, no difference on my 123" screen either...

Somehow this topic seem to become more focused on Monster cables than the main topic of Monster Clean power.
I for one will agree with everybody that Monster products are EXPENSIVE.
I do however feel that if you have the money and own expensive High End AV gear than there are advantages to using these Clean Power products.
It's a fact that Electric current is noisy and the voltage is unstable and fluctuates constantly.
I use a Monster AVS 2000 and my voltage remains constant at 120 volts no matter what.
You should see the digital readout of how the current constantly fluctuates (drops) in the evenings, weekends and holidays.
This is then fed into a Monster HTPS 7000 MKII power filter.
This filters and removes electrical noise for all the different outlets sections, analog, digital ect.
Does this make a siginifcant difference in my setup? Most certainly. My components all run at there absolute peak performance.
Do you need to buy all this equipment or Monster for your HT setup?
Probably not.
There are also plenty of other companies out there that also make good power products if you feel Monster isn't the one for you. JMO.
Final note. I never pay the outrageous prices for any of my Monster products, you just need to shop around.

So you don't believe the engineers of the high end gear know enough about the kind of power it is going to be running off to design an appropriate power supply?

The power supply of most high end gear are perfectly adequate, it's the power that's being fed into them that is the issue.
Having noisy fluctuating electrical current powering your components won't cause them not operate properly, they just won't run at peak efficiency.
Not to mention that it puts a strain on any component when the voltage constantly spikes and then drops.
Having constant steady filtered power just put less strain on your components and make them operate at there peak capability.
Yes, I think you just said that the high end gear engineers are incapable of making their gear work properly on typical power. Maybe it is just PG&E power they don't understand.

So do these Monster clean power prevent your TV from getting a silk screen effect or ghosting? Or is it the nature of the television. I just bought a Toshiba LCD and am experiencing blurs on the top corners in dark scenes. I've had these problems with my Samsung DLP as well. I am only using a regular power strip but have a lot of things pugged into it.

Can SOMEONE HERE SHOW ME HOW TO USE "IMG" CORRECTLY so the image just shows up here?!? It's been explained to me a million times but I keep forgetting!

You need to say w/o blanks [ i m g ] theimage [ / i m g ]

Note forward slash at end, not backslash.

The prettiest lightning rod I've ever seen.

I actually tried that - I think it's my PC or OS. The img option does not work for me on other forums structured like AVS.

Anywho it was in response to Electron Wizard's statement that there is no protection against a direct lightning hit against a residence. So I attempted to post that as a image.

Lightning hits against DeLoreans? Probably not. Against houses? Just head down to your local big box and pick up one of what I posted!

Although it would serve quite well in most instances, a direct hit would probably overwhelm it, or any lightning deflection system.

Well, can't hurt to have one - so long as it is properly installed.

Absolutely. And, you'd be the envy of your electrically knowledgeable neighbors, too.

Yes, but at least it won't frie any expensive electronics you have.

That's not necessarily true. A direct hit on a house, even with that cute little gizmo posted above, probably won't protect the house and contents unless the house is earthed properly. The house fuse box needs to have adequate trip protection as well, and that's before the energy hits the circuits of the house. If your house catches fire due to a direct hit, frying your delicate electronics are the least of your worries.

Why are you bumping threads from 20 months ago?

Baloney. A direct hit would fry anything electrical, and as noted most likely cause other greater problems, like setting your house on fire, or you.....

Good question. But if an old topic is going to get bumped, this is one of the more entertaining ones.

Should be interesting to see how this thread progresses Don't stray too far mods.

Hi,

I didn't want to start another thread since I found this one that mirrors what I wanted to really ask.

I don't like monster products, after witnessing first hand what a rip off their cables are...

However, future shop had the HDP 2500 for 199$ this week, ($300 off reg price)... and I'm still not sure if thats worth it. I'm using it to replace a 20$ costco APC surge protector .

I haven't noticed anything "cleaner" except maybe the sound got a fraction clearer, which could just be my imagination. Note: I originally didn't have any huming or hum bars in my setup.

So I guess what I'm asking is... is $200 still too overpriced for this?? (mind you I like the usb ports on the front). Big part of me is considering returning it.
I dunno whether $200 is worth it to you, but if u are going to get a power center at least ask for some "mundane" features like 12v trigger, staggered (delayed/soft) power on, and a more useful amp (current) display in addition to voltage so u know what your sytem is sucking up.

Better yet, Amazon.com has the Monster HTS 3600 MKII for only $229.99.
That provides 44.00% more mindless technobabble for only 15.57% extra.

...a fool and her money are soon courted,

Any recommendations?

Feature-wise I like the Panamax M5300, too bad they don't sell a thinner unit, and the front is too busy, all personal aesthetic objections to be sure.

Looks good... but its $500 where this one is $200.
$ per value, wouldn't this monster one be worth it???

Yeah my recommendation wasn't based on cost TODAY, just what I like to have or wait until what I want becomes cheaper.
