5.1 And Remote Question For Samsung Setup

First time posting here, so hopefully I did everything by the rules!

So guys, Heres the situation:

The setup:
Samsung 46INCH LN46B640
Samsung HT-Z320 HTIB
Comcast HD Cable Box
AsiaNET Satelite Box.

The hookups:
Comcast HD Box is connected to the TV via HDMI
AsiaNET Satelite Box is connected to teh TV via Coaxle (AsiaNet sucks)
Samsung HTIB is connected to the TV via HDMI

For Audio: I used a Digital Optical cable to connect to teh Samsung HTIB to the TV.
-----------------------------

The problems:

My first problem is with the sound. I mean, I get the sound and everything works, but I do not get 5.1 sound. Sound only comes through Sub, Front Left & Right Speakers. This occurs for both the Satelite and Cable boxes.

Now, if anyone ever had Samsung prodcuts, then you guys must know about AnyNET+. It is suppose to make your life easier, but hell....it is making my life much harder. Both the HTIB remote and TV Remote turns on the TV but not the HTIB. I just want to make it so that when I press power on either the TV or HTIB remote, it turns of BOTH systems.

thanks,
tissle

I'm guessing the answer to this is here:

TV is probably downrezzing the 5.1 sound from the cable and sat boxes to stereo. If that's the case, then there's no adjustment you can make. You'll have to find a way to route the audio from those boxes to the HTIB, maybe by a switch or something. I realize the TV is convenient for routing audio through, but it may have this annoying limitation and you'll have to pick your poison.

I thought the only way I can get Audio from the TV to the receiver is through the Digital Optical cable. What other ways are there?

It does not work with just HDMI

You need to bypass the TV. Connect it direct from the sat box to the HTIB. Same with the cable box. They should have optical or coaxial outputs. If the HTIB doesn't have enough inputs, get a switch. Monoprice.com sells them.

Otherwise, you'll have to live with not getting 5.1 unless the HTIB has a ProLogicII setting.

Hey man, turns out my HTIB does have a Pro Logic II option.
So, I just did that, and put it on Matrix.

So, now I get 5.1 sound!

Uh, yeah, about that:

All it is really doing is routing stereo(2 channels) through all your speakers.

What you should try, for REAL 5.1, is run a digital optical cable from your HD box to your Samsung HTiB. This will give you 5.1 from the HD box.

You can't do anything more with the Asianet hookup if all it has is a coaxial cable output to the TV. If I remember right, coaxial cable doesn't even carry stereo, just mono. So you are stuck with Pro Logic for that.

Hooking up your TV optical output to the HTiB allows you to get 5.1 out of your TV- but ONLY from the TV's built-in tuner, not cable boxes/satellite/etc. So if you're not watching over the air channels, you don't need that connection.

Sorry for the long delay in response, but had some other issues going on.

So, since highdefdrifter explained my situation to me, here's what I was thinking I should do.

Purchase another digital optical cable.

Then, buy a splitter or some sort from the monoprice website.
Then, hook up one dig/op cable from HD Box to Samsung receiver, and then hook another dig/op cable from TV to Samsung receiver.

I will use a splitter, but I have no idea where on the monoprice website..the splitter is.

But, couple of questions.
is this a smart idea?
Would the receiver automatically realize that from the HD box it is getting true 5.1 sound and from the TV its just getting stereo (and thus automatically realize to turn on Pro Logic)

Audio from a Samsung TVs is only outputed as 2.0 stereo!

To get 5.1 sound you need to route the sound from the cable box and satelite box directly to the Home theater reciever.

Your Home Theater has 2 audio inputs. So connect each box's audio directly to your home theater
