Streaming Audio and Video From My Computer

Thread Starter
I am looking to stream music and movies to my home cinema any idea of how I can acheive this. The ideal is to stream video from a study to lounge around 30 metres away and music to 7 rooms over 50 metres maximum.

Any ideas please share.

Do you have a network already in place?

Investigate DLNA. Wikipedia has a good article on it. Many new devices support it.

If you are using an all-Windows7 environment, a good deal of this media sharing/streaming should happen automatically via Homegroups (assuming the netowrk infrastructure is in place, as has been mentioned.)

How much network bandwidth is required to stream HD content? I have seen advertisements indicating that Wi-Fi (11g or 11n?) is sufficient. I am trying to configure my main computer (100Mbps) to stream to a Zino (250Mbps about 30 feet away) and still seeing choppy output.

The Zino processor is only 50% utilized but I wonder if I really need a 1 gig network connection.

all HD content is different, and in some instances hard wired 100MB isn't even enough (although 100MB is typically not an issue).

Have you tried copying the file over first, and then playing it locally, does the choppiness go away?

At least that you prove issue is only when its streamed and therefore very likely caused by wireless streaming.
