The 72" for $3500 was the most impressive to me. Check out the link for the full run down. I was all set for the 551XVT this year but wow is that a tempting price.

Just read that article. Looks amazing. Hopefully they can actually hit their release date target this time!
Looks incredible. I'll probably need to replace my JVC LCOS later this year and this would fit the bill nicely.

Are the higher end Vizio's as nice as say... a high end Samsung?

Most people will tell you set-to-set, next to each other, probably not. Are they the better value with better than average performance? I'd say yes.

For me, I'd just assume pay 60% of the price and get 90% of the performance and features.
That is impressive and thanks for the post. At 72 inches it will turn a lot of heads and that price is not bad at all. I'm going to get a new set this year and this will be on my list. 3D is coming home.
that 72inches is mine! aug can't come soon enough.
WOW. I spotted this on Engadget and immediately came here to kibbitz. I gotta tell you, I'm a plasma fiend generally speaking, but the hole on my wall I've been reserving for the 65" Panasonic may have just been filled by the 72" Vizio.

Can't wait to see one of these, and hopefully get some tested specs from a trusted reviewer as well...
Wow August huh? Don't you guys think that time is convenient for football season
post #10 of 1447
I love my Vizio 551 but the second this 72 inch Vizio comes out I am grabbing one, after I get it, I will wall mount my 55" Vizio in the bathroom.

Cheers

the 1st gen 55inch reviews has been very good. I'd expect the 72inch to be great as well if not more improved.
Wow, this looks very tempting. I historically would not have considered Vizio (the snob in me..I admit it) but the recent reviews have been good and this is 72 fricking inches :-) I was going to eyeball the new 65 panasonic for this Christmas (whatever replaces the 65v10) but this might sway me towards a vizio.
Yup Frolich, I've been in the same boat. The Panny 65V10 can be had for around $3700, so I figured the replacement model - which could be unveiled any second at CES - would be slightly cheaper and of course better.

The 84" Panny is just too expensive at $25k discounted retail. Even if it falls 50% year over year - doubtful - it's just too expensive. But to jump to 72" - yummy. That might be just the ticket.

Their product lineup doesn't make any sense. What about the sizes that everyone expects between 55" and 72"? I don't want a 55" (too small) and I don't want a 72" (too big). If they would product a 60 something inch then definitely.

That's the understatement of the year. There are still 55" displays that cost more.

I wonder whose panel they will use, and how many other TV mfrs. will also be introducing their own 72" displays in '10?
Something in the 62"-65" range for around $2500 would be a perfect fit.
vizio seems to be the game changer.

just got through reading this article & made me think twice about what I'm buying ... wow
post #24 of 1447
I think that Vizio may have a real winner here, massive size with decent PQ (looking at the 65inch LCDs already out) at a great price... this is insane, I may actually buy a Vizio if my Panasonic 54V10 that is on it's way doesn't work out. (replacement for a 54G10)
wow, 72 inch 480HZ, 3D ready, 1080P, LED-backlit LCD TV for $3500? That is insane! This is the same price as Samsung 8500 right now, which is just a 55 inch 240HZ LED-backlit TV! This Vizio 72 inch TV will be my next TV! So tempting!

it's not insane at all....vizio just chooses not to fluck the consumer as bad.can you imagine the mark-up/profitability Samsung has on there now discontinued 8500. btw,i own one but will never ever ever buy a 55" anything for 3.5k. you know the old saying "fool me once shame on me fool me twice shame on you" or whatever the saying...

Sharp's new UV2A panels top out at 60". The 60" LX1 (60LX1) just came out in Japan, and there will likely be a number of LED LCD HDTVs in the states to choose from later this year (from Sharp, Sony, and Toshiba).

What, no KRP-600M for you?

I think the announcement of the 72" at said price is just about as surprising as when Vizio announced the 551 a year ago! I suppose they wanted to top the shock this year! Fun stuff!
If Vizio starts using the UV2A panels, then Vizio will probably be the brand to buy in 2010.
Apparently the 72" set has 480 zones of local dimming as well.
