thanks Afrster, if I dont know what it does then I leave it alone, nether the less thank you very much for the warning I greatly appriciate it.

By they way, just curious what does it do?

JF-GINo that question you asked about DIMM- INT, I saw a picture of an lcd service menu and it had DIMM- EXT, not sure what EXT is maybe external, but I dont think it has to do with any type of memory anymore because a tv wont have external memory. So I stand corrected

Ya, I would not touch it - it might reset the entire eprom - you would then need a programmer to restore it..... bad news.

It must reset the eprom to part shipping defaults ready to be programed by an external source. The service menu and the eprom is like a bios in a computer.

Anywho, Does anyone know how to modify the Automatic Brightness Limiter? This is why I asked about the panel dimm option. I want to adjust my Movie Mode to come close to the ABL tolerance of Standard Mode. Im sure this will be the same on all 2009 Sammys.

Also, where in advanced is 1080/48 option?

BTW, new firmware came out....
Dang JF-GINO I was just in the service menu earlier and I cant for the life of me remember where it is, but I think you are right in your assumption that its for sound 48hz becuase it looks like this 1080p/48hz. I spent a few hours googling dimm-int or ext and couldnt find anything besides a picture in an lcd forum of there service menu that showed Dimm with ext after it instead of int like ours. I'll try searching for the abl see if we can get lucky.

Just noticed a b550 report from an ISF calibrator (ChadB in an earlier thread) - he posted this:

Interesting to see the IRE10 behaviour is identical to mine, with blue shooting up, red down - not sure the IRE0 is accurate on mine, really hard to measure down there. His 850 calibration does the same at IRE10 to a slightly lesser degree, although at 0 it doesn't shoot off to infinity.

Also his calibrated gamma of 2.26 is absolutely identical to mine. He's managed better colours than me though, obviously still got a lot to learn on that score :-)

ps that's a different deltaE measure there to mine, btw.

pps he also has a few other reports that some might find useful to see what an uncalibrated set looks like, original post here:

Funny thing happened to me this morning,

I turned on my plasma and noticed that my Day/Night Cal adjust options have vanished ....

I went into the service menu to re-activate it but its active. So I de-activated, then re-activated it and it is still not showing up. So, somewhere in the software of this set it just said last night : "Hey, man - Im outa here!"

Anywho, - not a big deal LOL.

arfster: you are so right - as far as my experience goes, I can never get true accurate readings on lower IRE - most sensors are just not accurate under lower brightness. I personally would not worry too much about the blue down that low. I still wish I could get a hold of a sensor and post my own readings and calibration details. - Soon tho.

A general question to anyone who might know, as asked previously above:
I was wondering if anyone here knows where I can adjust the Automatic Brightness Limiter in the service menu.
JF-GINO if you switch it out of 560 or 590 then the cals disappear. When I switched mine back to 450 model they went poof also. I tried 550 and nothing. So If you want the cals it has to be 560 or 590. Did you ever try to calibrate your set using those modes. Something else I noticed. I went into the service menu and turned on the dynamic dimming and dynamic ce. Left the service menu and then went back into it and checked those settings and they were both off again. So i tried again and the same.
Now I remember seeing a lcd service menu picture and that DIMM seting said EXT instead of INT like on ours. Maybe that has something to do with the dynamic dimming and dynamic ce. Just wierd why when I turn them on and they say on when I exit the screen, even if I go back to them without leaving the SM they still say on but if I leave the SM and go back into they now say off. Sorry just rambling
JF-GINO did you install new firmware yet?

Im a proud owner of a 50b560 I just used the 7.5 IRE NTSC option to on and the blacks look better to my eyes Its under the PQ option also i turned on the cal night/day option it did look lke night vision but it went to normal after i moved the slider forward then back it went from 255 to 100 so it could be set like normal. So is the colorspace menu the CMS thats found on the 650? also what do we need to change hex into something useful oh yea how do i learn to interpret those cal reports that people post like ARFSTER just posted? im waiting to pull the plug on an eye1
post #38 of 58
The cms options work like this...

saturation: affects saturation and luminance, although not that wide a range, if you need more/less you can shift all of them with the main colour control.

hue: 0 and 40 are the same default starting point, ie a zero angle from white. Increase from 0 to 3F and it moves clockwise from the starting point. Increase it from 40 up to 7F and it moves counter-clockwise. Note the display's gamut limitations mean you can't just shift things completely as you like, and if saturation is especially high it won't move out of a corner.

You shouldn't need to mess with 7.5IRE btw.
I read an article on the 7.5 ire and I cant remember where it is. I think with it on it makes the tv 0-255 on blacks. Mine is set off by default and under is 7.5 ire offset which by default is set to 16. Which Ibelieves sets the blacks to 16-255. Something like that. I wish I could find that article. I've read on this forum that the hdmi black level(low and normal) are backwards, do you think maybe its because of this setting.
Pimpology26 do me a favor and check your cal-day or cal-night and see if when you change color space, black tone and dynamic contrast. If you notice any difference for example in dynamic contrast go from low to high and see if it does anything. thanks

Hey kanpol, Thanks for the info, My friend changed my set back to 550 because he thinks it looks brighter – I feel like he violated my TV!

I did notice a few things because of this:

Setting to B590 introduces WAY more blocking artifacts then the models below it. It also has different WARM2 settings – If green is 128, then red/blue far lower then other models. I’m wondering if the 590’s Warm2 values are more accurate.

I would also have to confirm that you can not change any of the ‘Picture enhancements’ on the day/night cal modes. These modes also introduce the same panel brightness settings (or ABL threshold) that Dynamic & Standard use. Therefore, I believe that these modes are far from reaching Movie mode accuracy. There is less shadow detail in thos modes as well.

As for the new firmware – I have not upgraded to it yet, I’m too lazy to record all my service mode values and re-enter them (I believe a flash will set everything in SM to default – could be wrong tho) There are no real benefits to a flash yet – just a minor tunner fix and I don’t use the TVs tunner.

BTW, I also remember reading something about 7.5IRE somewhere and benefits – I did mess with it in the past and saw no difference to the eye (blacks or otherwise)

kanpol, before I forget to ask, where in the menu did you find dynamic dimming and dynamic ce?
Kanpol I'll have to try those when i get home, I set cal night with dynamic off and on movie mode then i turned black tone off flesh tone off i basically set everything back to normal so the colors would look right as everything was set at "255" I'm with you on the fact that 7.5 IRE just changes it from 0-255 to 16-255 mine is set at 16 by default. I thought hdmi low/normal seemed backward also because your just changing the IRE from 0 to 16 with a RGB signal correct? its like the option on the nvidia driver that you can change the RGB from 0-255 to 16-255 and the same effect occurs the black level is lower im assuming im giving up some shadow detail by doing this but for on air tv it makes the blacks way blacker and not faded we need to see some pro cal settings from the service menu for our pdps i feel like we are a rare breed but I would never trade up my 560 becuz of the crazy deal i got on it. Honestly how much better are the pannys or for that matter the 850/860s sans the ultra filterbright and the crappy widgets and the thinness which i could give a toss about. I watched KingKong on my xbox360 hddvd player and the colores and pq are breathtaking!! only 60hrs into the breakin with the slides and its lookin good. As far as im concearned the direction to go is with a kuro and thats about it
post #42 of 58
JF_GINO its in the section where the 1080p/48hz is in fact the dynamic ce is right above it. I believe its in the advanced options part somewhere. Sorry I always forget exactly where it is but I kow its right above the 1080p/48hz setting.
Pimpology26 I have the b450 but when I change the model to 560 in the service menu I can enable the cal-day and cal-night mode, but on my tv on both the cal-modes the black tone, dynamic contrast and colorspace dont change. I can cycle through then and there is no difference. Like I explained before I never use those but I feel in the cal-modes there are enabled just like the dynamic mode.
kanpol i just tried and there was no difference when i changed those settings however when i goto cal-night it seems brighter or higher contrast than movie i wonder if in fact is indeed enabled. In the service menu there are seperate settings for the cal n/d modes so i wonder if this has an effect. Are Cal n/d modes so you can just switch to those and they give you automatic calibration for day/night so that you do not have to go through the main menu. It must be for a calibrator saves their settings through the service menu and they can no longer be modified by the average end user? Does anyone besides me have to change their white balance, sharpness and cell light settings everytime they turn the tv on? I leave it on movie mode and it always changes back everytime i turn the tv on!!
pimpology24 only time i have to redo white balance is when I leave the service menu. When i turn the tv off then turn it on again it stays the same. Maybe you are in demo or store mode. On my cal-mode in the service menu my options are on/off/fix. I know all fix does is make so you cant change any settings in the user menu. If you leave it on ON you can make changes in user menu, except for black tone ,color space and dynamic contrast of course. Haven't found anyplace in service menu to make changes to the cal-modes at least not yet.

D-Nice calibrated my 590 and it looks like he dialed it in tighter in a few ways -- less delta and better blacks in particular.

im trying to find out the settings for 3d color via the service menu i suppose the settings from the 650 people would work but what do the hex codes stand for? on the 650 they are on the user menu but on the 560 they are on the advance color space menu maybe jf-gino knows? jf-gino do you own a eye1 or similar calibrator?
The 650 is different, that has 3d cms (ie saturation and luminance are different controls). Also probably starts from different primary points.

There's no point copying another tv's settings though, they're all different (especially different models).

See my previous post for what the 500 service menu color settings do.

im having a problem w/ my b560, maybe this thread can shed some light on my situation for a setting in the service menu.

Basically what it is is while watching hockey on hd cable or playing hockey on my xbox 360, the screen seems to flicker and sometimes it will adjust the brightness or some similar setting on the fly. its really really weird. As far as the flicker goes, sometimes its worse than others, and tonight its really bad.

I thought it was a problem w/ my TV so i swapped it for a new one. This new one is just as bad. I have all the enhancements off (dynamic contrast, etc). Is there a setting in the service menu that i can change?

When i watch TV shows or movies, i dont seem to notice this problem. Its mainly while watching hockey, which is a primarily white screen.

does anyone know why the euro version PS50B560 has a custom colour space mode and we are left with auto and native? Here is the review of the PS50B560 at avforums and it shows the custom colour space

I have a question, is the difference between the US and European models just a different service menu or is the hardware different also. Now if its just the service menu, then I wonder if there is a way to change from US to Europe like we do to change it from b450,b550 to b560,b590. Any opinions on that?

I am not an expert but I would think there would be substantially differences in the European models, including the critical facts that they operate with different power requirements and connections, use PAL for their tuner and refresh at 50Hz instead of 60Hz.
European 430/450/530 have the same basic scaler/mainboard/etc as the US 430/450. The US 530 gets the higher end scaler, with Euro models you need the 550+ for that.

However, European 560 has a CMS, with US models that only exists in the 650+. This is likely just a software difference, maybe they ran out of flash memory or cpu cycles, or perhaps even something simpler like the European designers had a little more time/money, or were aiming at different market segments. Panasonic do the same odd differences between US/Euro models (eg 24/96hz on s10/g10), which are clearly just sofware.

Euro 560+ have a problem with interpolation corruption on 50hz content though. Likely this is just lazy programming, but they aren't going to fix it, and the interpolation is undefeatable.

Just wanted to point out the RGB balance at 0% is a junk reading and should always be ignored. If CalMAN would let me hide it on the graph, I would.
The 10% reading with the Eye One Pro can be erratic and is only an estimate. If you sit there long enough retaking dark readings and retaking the 10% reading, you will get a wide range of readings. You can get a general idea of the 10% balance with the Eye One Pro, but don't consider it the absolute spot on truth.

After all the adjustments I have made, I got my hands on a DTP-94 for awhile (its not mine) and am going to re-do' my calibration as I'm now at almost 500hrs

I will post the results as soon as I can. (and my settings to give u a start)
I have only used a DTP-94 (never used any other sensor - yet)

BTW, the Dynamic CE setting in the SM only effects Dynamic & Standard modes and changes the contrast values to the highest Dynamic' setting. I have not looked at the Dynamic Dimming setting yet turning it on/off does nothing as far as I can see.

Also, I had a little scare last week as my black levels shot threw the roof. It took a good 4 days before they just settled back and now my panel looks brighter as well. This is why I decided to re-calibrate.

Now, about the Day/Night Cal modes, I cant find anything in the service menu that will allow you to turn all the enhancements off or set everything flat. I did a gamma test of both modes and found that IRE20 and IRE75 have A RED jump and you cannot compensate without having green/blue shoot up too high globally. Must be a limitation imposed by the Dynamic Contrast processing. These modes also yield a brighter picture (similar to Dynamic/standard modes)

See attached reading using custom outboard broadcast meter/monitor with a Vegas ramp.
(Default settings)

I will also calibrate the Day/Night cal mode as well and try to flatten the red.
The red spike causes a pinkish look to whites in the IRE range effected.

As for the CMS options in the SM: See arfster's post above as he explains it perfectly.
Setting the options here are very similar to colour correction in video/film post where there is a colour gamut baised on degrees reperesented in a circle. You will always need to reference a change here. Only difference is the values change degrees above 40 and your values are reperesented in HEX.

Hi there,

Question for the service menu experts of this thread. I have a PN50B530 and have recently switched it to the B560 in the service menu. I need to change the following settings to get my plasma to play nice with my apple TV: hotplug and hotplugctr

Could someone please point me to where to find these two options in the service menu of the b530. I'm lost but really need to turn these two options off. The result will be that I won't have to continually unplug/replug in my apple tv to get its signal picked up by the plasma.

A huge HUGE thanks to anyone that can help me here.
Sincerely
Steph

Hi guys, my first post on this site, and didn't want to start a new thread. I have the B530. I did the service menu trick to make it a B560. My problem is that in either mode, when the TV gets no signal (which happens when my HTPC goes to sleep, usually a few minutes after I do) the TV does not turn off. It stays on, and just has a Samsung Logo popping all about the screen.

Is there any way to get the TV to turn off when it gets no-signal? Waking up in the morning and seeing the TV still flashing that logo is annoying.

I've checked every where in the menu, the service menu, the advanced menu... I can't find any setting for this. Oh, and I've searched AVSForum inside and out. I created this account just to ask this question.

Thx!
