Premiere elements 8/Sony Vegas Platinum Pro

Thread Starter
I just downloaded the trial version of Sony Vegas Platinum Pro 9. I was impressed by how easy it is to just pick up and go. Basic editing and adding some effects and type is simple. It even performs well on my lowly Pentium Dual Core 2.6Ghz computer. However... FOUR LAYERS?!?! That's it? I can only use 4 videos at once. Or 2 videos and 2 type layers, etc.

So now I turn to Adobe Premiere Elements 8, which as I understand allows unlimited layers (yes/no?). But I'm having trouble finding out about AVCHD format. Specs say it can handle AVCHD files, but I can't find anything that says I can save my video in AVCHD format. Is this possible?

Or... is there a way to get more layers in Vegas Platinum Pro 9?

Only Vegas Pro (not to be confused with Vegas movie studio platinum Pro) allows unlimited video and audio tracks. Anything else is limited to 4 tracks for video and 4 tracks for audio.

This is more than enough, since the target audience of Vegas movie studio platinum pro, are home users and aficionados. 4 tracks provide enough space to do transitions and have 2 extra layers for graphics overlay.

Another program you might want to look at is Puremotion editstudio Pro.
