why would the height be effected. both are 1080p vertically.

Would 16:9 t not just use the centre 1920 x 1080 pixels of the 2560 x 1080 panel?

I like the purple bezel, that would look pretty cool hanging in the bedroom.

Josh was responding to Nashou66's suggestion of a 21:9 display with native resolution of 1920x800. That way, there'd be no scaling of scope blu-ray material. But as Josh points out, then 1.78 material will need to be downscaled to 1440x800. No matter what, something will need to be scaled.

I found the comments on that link to be interesting. Still a great deal of CIH education needed.

Do you think it's doing some sort of internal ch adjustment or would you still need a scaler/player capable of making the conversion.

According to this sneak peek, the TV can auto-detect scope content on the fly and zoom, or ignore it, based on a user setting. So menus for scope movies are 16:9 and then the feature is zoomed to 21:9 on the fly.

They also show a 16:9 image pushed all the way to one side, accommodating a widget in the open area.

Pretty sweet

that said, it looks like at least one bit conflicts with info at vizio.com (click the cinemawide HDTV button near the top right). The manufacturer's webiste suggests that the 21:9 TV's will also be 3D (polarized - RealD 3D) while the sneak peek link says the 21:9 is not 3D capable.

Yeah, the press release today said 3d no doubt about it. Very cool that it can autodetect! Color me interested.

Agreed. What's not so cool is that their passive 3D is interlaced left and right eye images (each eye sees half of 1080) but really - I'm not interested in 3D like I am in 21:9.

It looks like the 71'' is going to be a 21:9 model as well
