New Casio projectors: LED/Laser, 720p, compact - Page 6

Outdoors you would not notice the fan.. I am wondering about how many watts is uses because I want to power it with a car inverter like I do with my samsung p410. The 410 is just fine but it has no zoom and it could be brighter and sharper. the Casio is both of those.
270 W (mode Eco Off) / 190 W (mode Eco On niveau 1) / 130 W (mode Eco On niveau 2)
Well damn, that is about the same as a lampjo!
My ultimate colors settings:
Cinema standard red -10/green 0 /blue +50 /brightness -20 /contrast +5 with eco1.

You can also, if you have a pc, change the colors settings in nvidia control panel with digital vibrance at 54/55%.

the idea of not having to worry about bulb life/wear would be amazing

It kind of is because you can decide not to use the 80 extra pixels. This sounds right up my alley. I'm thinking that 1080p from where I sit may not be really the most important thing. But having lots of light is great because I could use presets to set a mode for pitch dark use and a mode for medium lit room situations.

This would help solve the number one problem with front projection in a domestic situation.

I can keep direct sunlight off the screen so I'm sure something in the 2500-3000 lumen range would be bright enough for daytime use. Because of the fixed screen I don't have a good place to put a TV. This would basically be a TV replacement. I looked at the XJ-A240 foreign prices and if the pricing ratio holds we should be able to pick it up for about $1000 when it is released.

This is exactly why I want one. I will get a 1080p DLP or LCD mercury lamp lit projector but I can't have it on all day or sometimes when I have guests over I can't turn off the light. So I've come to the conclusion that either I need a Plasma or a second 720p light cannon for daytime/lit room use. This fits the bill perfectly.

For that matter I don't care that it is not an HT Projector either. I just need a light cannon for non-ideal use. I'll get something else for Blu-Ray viewing.

I really want to pull the trigger on this thing.

I haven't see nothing, no artefact on mine ! And i'm sensible to artefact.
I will try to make picture later let me use my XJ-A240 please lol, it's so good ^^.
No green color layer offset by a few pixels, it's perfect for me.

But if you don't use my settings (cinema/standard) the colors are bad, artificial colors, it's the only setting good possible.

And there is sound on the projector if you need it, i don't need it (i have homecinema system) but it is very useful if you want to use the projector like a tv and you don't have system home cinema like me, it works well (no sound great but it works really and you can hear a program tv without problems for example).
If you have questions, i will try to answer !

Pictures:

The quality is poor because of the htc HD2 cam ...

Hi congrats on your purchase! I'm so jealous! Do you know if I can ask the projector to not scale the 1280x720 to 1280x768? I mean that it will keep the native aspect ratio and keep the extra 80 pixels unlit?

I'm so tempted to order this from the UK. I was about to buy a Plasma today but I think this is better.

Crap I wish I read this. Oh well it may still be useful as a second projector. Or I can wait for something else.

I think even though a HT unit is possible they like to bring out new tech in business applications first. It may be a year or 2 unfortunately for us.

It depends on what you want, a plasma is different.
I'm happy with my product but you must use the good settings (don't forget my ultimate settings), it's very important for the colors. It's not the quality of a lamp projector normal but for me it's sufficient for day use (i use it a lot ^^).
There is strong noise compared to a plasma without noise, but it's obvious.

You do what you want, but for me it's exactly what i need.
For the ratio no problem, it's automatic, 16:9 in 720p, 16:10 in 1280x800

These pics do indeed look better than what Casio was showing met at the ISE show last month. The fan does make some noise as the projector is quite flat and it needs to shift quite a lot of excess heat, so the fan is small, and needs to be run fast, as there is no room for natural convection or passive heat heat dissipation.

Still seeing white compression, as present in the pictures in your opening post?
White compression ?
What is it ?
The pictures were done with a hd2 htc (with compresssion yes, in reality the sharpness is perfect, very different from these pictures) with projector settings not as good as now.

And yes the fan is small and need to run quickly= noise.
Could be clipping as well, instead of crushed whites. In the pictures in your initial post the whites look like radiating blobs of white light instead of graded whites still showing some detail in the white areas.
You can't analyse hd2 pictures you know ^^.
The white are white and are not 'burn white' if you want to know
post #164 of 875
I realize there are camera issues, aswell as the changed projector settings following the first pictures, that's why I asked. Good to hear the white clouds aren't burning.
With time the colors and contrast are better ! Me and another person who buy the projector, have seen the difference. I have 122 hours use time product.
I don't know how to explain this, but it's obvious.
Good news ^^.
One wouldn't expect to see a break in like that. Let's hope it isn't a break down;-). The lightengine should only loose 10% or so in light output over 20K hours, due to dust buid up and so on, so to see a lamp-like reduction like this wouldn't be good news I guess. Please keep us posted on further reduction of the light output/improvement of the image quality?
Ok ! Casio says the lightengine loose very few power over 20K hours (compared to lamp), i will see.
Yesterday, i tried 5 meters diagonal in eco 1 and the lightengine is sufficient in eco1 in the dark, it's very big 5 meters diagonal ^^.
But i prefer stay with 3 meters diagonal because of my projection screen.

My ultimate settings :
Brightness -20 contrast +5
mode colors cinema
Bal.colors normal with -10 red, 0 green, +50 blue
With my ps3, the results are very good with colors perfect now (with 130h use time).
After for a PC picture from the control pannel nvidia i use: brightness: 50%
contrast : 57%
gamma : +1.05

digital vibrance 65% but you can change it. It depends if you want less colors, you put less.
Im the in USA and I have a 240 on the way. Should be here in the beinning of April. I also have a colormeter with sofware and I can make some measurements for people.

Don't forget this product need more than 100 hours to deliver the 'real' quality picture.

thats not a problem here, with all my room mates laying around all day, it will get a 100 hours on it, 100 hours after its delivered .

my samsung p400 has about 10,000 hours on it, still running strong as the day I bought it. but im ready for a upgrade.
Yes it's the big quality wih led projectors, i can use it when i want and no think about use time, i was seing dexter and tv today and now i want to play with my ps3 with god of war III now ^^.

What needs 100 hours? What component requires 100 hours of use until it starts working correctly?
The laser?

Also is it noisy? The french review claims it is very noisy. The compared it to a hair dryer which seems hard to believe so I have my doubts about the french review in total.
It definitily is a businessprojector when it comes to noiselevels, remember there's still upto 2500 lumens coming out of the lens at a powerdraw of 287 watts. Add that it is about 4 centimeters high, so there's only a small fan working hard to pump out the excess heat.

I don't know ! But we are two persons to see the difference before and after on two different casio projector (130 hours using time).
And it is noisy with full mode (horrible sound very strong), in eco1 it's strong but i can tolerate with my big home cinema during video games.
During movies i prefer eco2 mode, easy to use with little sound

Probably. We use lasers at work, and the power output tends to increase as they age. If they're calibrated so that with the laser at full power (after it's been used a bit) the colours are right, they probably won't be very good when it's brand new.

I don't find it hard to believe. There's a lot of electronics that requires cooling, but very little space available. The low thickness means they'll have to use small fans - which will have to spin fast to move a reasonable amount of air.

The french reviewer didn't wait the 130 hours what's why i think the colors were horrible.
The factory colors settings are horrible, too.

That makes sense, the laser pumps out a lot of heat, wonder what the tech. hurdle is to get similar lumen/W with just LED.

I found the XJ A240 at $999 free shipping on projectorsuperstore.com
Any lower price?
News: the blue is now stronger than before, my settings in blue is +10, the laser needs 180/200 hours before the "real" result.

Before 180/200 hours the color setting blue needs to be overhaul to +50 (the max).

I love it when a big name brings out 3rd generation technology with improved 1st generation 720p image detail...it just shows you when they started research on this thing and how long it took them to get it to production. That ship has sailed for any price...imho...I understand it's giddy to wonder at how great this technology is going to progress, but older techology is overtaking it so what is the point? If it's going to compete, then it needs to be a better image (e.g. 1080p) for additonal $$$, or same for less $$$. It's like wondering why you can't sell your 1st generation 1080p for $10k, when you spent $20k for it just 3 years ago.
