Panasonic 2010 Plasma Models - Page 101

Does anyone know if the G20 will have a Panel Brightness setting that is separate from the contrast setting? I really love this feature in the Samsung plasmas, where it is called Cell Light.

As far as I knew I thought the AR Filters were the same on the VT/G series but in the pictures above the VT series AR filter looks considerably darker.

G20- has High Contrast filter, V20/VT20 have High Contrast Pro filter (in Europe anyway)

Hopefully it is a bundle and that accounts for the huge jump in price between the G and VT series ($750 difference between 54 inch models is crazy). I could stomach it more if I was getting a BD in the mix (resell my old one, whatever). Alternately, it gives hope that if they eventually unbundle, the price will fall more in line with a "normal" $300-400 markup over the G series.

Found this in the new 3D section of the forum. I would assume it's going to be a VT plasma. Does Panasonic even have 3D LCD coming out next month? Hope not.

Ooh... I didn't even consider that. I just figured that the premium was due to 3D technology being so new. I suppose it would be nice to see the difference in performance between the PS3 and what I assume would be a decent (not high-end, not cheap-o) Blu Ray player. If everything's equal, I can just gift the Blu Ray player to my brother.

I think people are dreaming with the idea that it is bundled with a Blu-Ray player. And it is funny how rumors spread. One person mentioned that he was told that a couple of weeks ago on AVS, and the next thing you know people on the other forums in Europe are thinking they are getting a bundled player.

Of course I could be wrong but I just don't see it. There has always been a premium for the V series compared to the G series. Considering current MSRP on the 2009 G and V models, the 54V10 is $400 more than the 54V10. I think that $750 accounts for the normal price difference between G and V models and the rest for 3D. Also remember the included glasses alone are rumored to be $100. I think it is more like a $300-$400 premium for the 3D technology and glasses. I just don't think there is that much room in there for a 3D Blu-Ray player.

Don't get me wrong, if I had to guess it would be that it wouldn't come with a player, but it wouldn't be such a terrible thing if it did. If the 50VT2X comes out for around $2499 MSRP and doesn't include the player (or even the glasses, for that matter) it's just fine with me. I'm just looking for the best quality 2D TV I can get.

I would imagine that the March BB release will be for the smaller VT's. They didn't say the 58's and 65's would be on the floor did they? But maybe this will mean the large ones will be April/May then. Probably in Magnolia.

I think it's safe to assume that the VT series in general will be exclusive to Magnolia.

@qphillips06..... aka panasonic man

Do you think the vt25 wil be better than PDP-5020FD (G9 europe) on blacklevel? Or equal or less?

Panasonic has mentioned at press events that they may do a 3D TV/player bundle, but this doesn't mean that the TV will not be available separately. But I agree that having the 3D tech, the 3D transmitter, one pair of active shutter glasses and the new short flow phosphor technology in the VT series would fully account for a pretty significant price premium over the G series.

I think just about every bit of info now estimates that the 58" and 65" will be "summer", June, or July. It would likely only be the 50" and 54" you see in BB before June.

We really only have a BB and a Big Screen store that we will see these sets in. Maybe Sears will have them later on. I had already been dealing with the Big Screen on one of the last remaining 58V10s. I declined that one (it sold next day) and put him on notice that I wanted the 58VT25. He told me the Panny rep said he would get invoice papers that would include the 58", in about 3 weeks. That was 2 weeks ago. I say he is running out of time and it was BS. I don't care about June or July because my schedule keeps me out of town most of the spring and summer anyway. Come August though, I am gonna be itchy for some big screen TV.

Last I heared the 58'VT25 and 65'VT25 are comming in June/July
The 50' and 54'VT25 in a couple of weeks.

Just found the manual for 50G20. It does indicate pro setting will be available.

I was able to pre-order the TC-P50G25 Feb. 19 on the Panasonic web site. I really needed a new TV right away as my ex-wife is taking the existing Sharp LC-42D64U. Actually, I offered it to her so I could get a new Panasonic plasma. ;-) I have seen the new 3D TV's and am not impressed by that feature. Yes, the VT series will be better for 2D also, but I really could not wait until mid-summer, so felt the G25 is good enough and a big step up from the G10.

I received a surprise call yesterday that the delivery company will be bringing the new TV on Tuesday, March 2. I am really jazzed that it is arriving so fast. If you go to the Panasonic web site now, then the G25 has delivery of April to May.

I will post what I find out once the set arrives. I have a Spyder2, so will make some measurements of the set when I get the time. Unfortunately, am really busy at work next week.

No, the S14 is a discontinued 2009 entry-level model that was originally sold in Costco and Sams Club for the past year. It's one level below the S1 series. Recently, BB bought some leftover inventory of S14s and are blowing them out.

Just saw the S2 at my local Best Buy. Definitely blah under the bright lights.

D-Nice, do you know how many lumens/watt these new panels are? How much brighter do they get than 5 lumen tech panels?

Thanks

Wow, if the 42/50 G25s are really rolling out this week, gonna be tough holding out for the 46" for another month :/

Don't know yet. I haven't seen one in person so I couldn't tell you. But from all the information I have gathered and been told I believe it is going to be the "KURO Killer". I spoke with BB/Mag associates during my shift today and they informed me that Panasonic brought the G20 by their store last week to show off the new set. They put the G10 and G20 side by side and the associates said that the difference was night and day. The BB associates told me that the THX mode was very impressive! I was so pissed that they didn't inform that this was going to be there. But preliminary reactions from the BB associates was very good. I am really excited.

I don't know the official number but it is reaching the 10 lumens/watt level which has been Panasonic's goal for the past couple years.

This just in!

It looks like the March 10th NYC Best Buy VT-series unveiling is exclusive to that store. Quantities and "bundles" are unknown. Samsung will begin stocking their 3D televisions on US Best Buy (all stores, not just Magnolia) shelves on the 14th, but it's unclear what models or if any will be plasmas. Panasonic will make their first 3D televisions available in Magnolia stores beginning March 21st. The smart money says that it will be the 50VT20 for $2499. (includes 3D glasses, no Blu Ray player) Best Buy is said to be the exclusive retailer for Panasonic 3D sets for the initial launch. It is unknown when other models in the VT series will be made available.

Source: This news item was just made available to Best Buy employees today.

I will check with my local Panasonic SSR and try to see if I can get a definitive answer. The magnolia supervisor told me that he was told that only certain magnolia locations would be receiving the VT25. During my training the Panasonic employee said that the VT25 would be mag and the VT20 would be best buy.

I bet it pissed you off! Great to hear they were impressed. You'll get a chance soon. But, you do know somebody is going to come on and say "yeh, but how long will it stay that good?" ---You know it's going to happen, be ready.
