The 2009 problem got me to wait for the 2010, but I wasn't going to wait any longer. Life's too short to agonize about every purchasing decision. I wanted a tv, I got a tv. If it sucks, life will go on.

Reaaally disappointed in the rising black levels. Was really hoping to get a great plasma this year (still rocking an old CRT here) for Final Fantasy XIII, God of War 3 and to finally play all my other Xbox 360 and PS3 games in HD. Was so hyped for this, but this sucks. Guess I'll just have to keep saving up and see what 2011 brings...

^^^ How would one know if the new models that are slowly coming out are going to have this issue when they are not even out? There are a few owner now getting the new models and there has not been one complaint yet.

I really don't think it'll that big of an issue this year. All plasmas compensate for this, it's just that for certain models the jump was sudden and more dramatic.

If you didn't read the forums most people would not know about the rising black levels. Chance are you wouldn't even notice them.

Well, D-Nice mentioned they would still rise, just at a slower pace. When I get a plasma, I want to enjoy a great PQ for at least 5 years, not a mere 5 months. IceCold: it's pretty hard not to notice such a drastic difference.

I think we're the only ones that got that deal before Panny got greedy with the demand. I bet you found a good use for that cash savings too. I told you the V10 was a mightly fine TV at that price.

This thread throws out posts faster than Panny can throw out SKUs!

I think some people could come to the conclusion the 2010's will have the same fate by reading Panasonic's statment on the issue. It would just happen at a slower rate. Whatever happens we'll find out for sure eventually.

Thanks for the info so far, and good luck with your clean up and electrical. I'd like to get the same (or the G25) a few months from now if I (or Panasonic) can get past the rising MLL issue. (I have a Sony CRT now.)

I have the same issue with having to relocate an outlet, and have to have it high enough to clear one of my speakers - can you measure the location of the mounting holes from the bottom edge? (I'll be using a monoprice tilt and swivel mount with it.)

Many thanks!

-Dan

Wait and let others be guinea pigs. These TVs aren't chump change. I buy TVs expecting them to last at least 3-5 years like new. You wouldn't buy a $2000 couch expecting the fabric to only last 1 year either. If a couch started pilling and fading within a year, you'd swear never to buy from that company again, even if it's still comfy.

The way I see it it's either rising blacks on Pannys or buzzing on Sammys. Some sets seem to be more affected than others, some people seem to notice it more than others, and some are perfectly happy. It kept me from getting a 12G but you can't wait forever - and I'm getting a better TV (regardless of black levels) anyway as a result. Better than dealing with LCD issues at least, until you can get a 50" LED lit IPS or better panel for equivalent to plasma prices.

@spelcheker: grats, nice looking. Kinda digging the blue stripe along the bottom.

You are right my friend, I am loving it. Took me a few days to get used to the size of the display but over a week later I feel like we could put an 85" on the wall

It was an amazing stroke of luck getting that deal. I checked almost daily for the "add to cart" button to come back to the EPP site. I ordered the morning they were allowing ordering again and I think the next day the discount was decreased. I was actually worried they'd not honor the price since the set was back-ordered.

PS, that extra cash went towards and OpenBox BDI stand at less than half the retail

It is a small investment for such a good set. I paid over $3000 for what was a decent 56" 1080p RP TV at the time in 2005. That old set looks like total crap compared to what I can get now for 1/3 the price!

I would rather get a G20/G25 for such a great price and enjoy it now then continue waiting year after year for the "perfect" display that will never show up. Seriously, no matter how great a set may be, there will always be folks on this forum that will pick it apart and find something to complain about.

Panasonic is coming out with LED edge-lit IPS TV's this year. The D2 Series will be Panasonic's LED offering for 2010. I am interest to see how a edge-lit IPS panel compares to a edge-lit S-PVA panel.

Watched Lost and was surprised. I wasn't really expecting this set to be as good at fast action scenes as my crt rear projection but it was flawless. I tried all the modes but definitely liked the THX best. Skin tones and colors looked spot on. Can't compare the G20 filter to previous versions as requested as this is my first plasma. Pro mode is included, but only available in 'custom' setting, not thx or vivid or standard.

I wouldn't mind checking it out but it's not a big deal. It is good to know that the Pro settings are available on this set considering they were only on the V series and up last year.

For the last time:

It is expected that the rising luminosity would compensate for fading brightness as the panel ages. However, Panasonic's 09 (almost all of them according many sources including D-Nice here) models seem to over compensate far too early. This screws up the black level and expends more energy than it naturally should.

This what is wrong and Panasonic is not acknowledging it in fear of probable massive recall and potentially huge losses. They are claiming that people can't tell the difference and so it justifies not fixing the "alleged" issue.

If it were so normal then we would have heard it by now with Samsung, LG, Pio etc on a regular basis. But it's not the case.

Anyways, I have my fingers crossed for 2010 as VT25 comes into play. It's said to incorporate Kuro tech and perhaps this time the rise in black level is proportionally compensated for the lost brightness of the set. I don't want to see a rise in luminosity which should be reached when the panel reaches 2000 hours of viewing in under 1000 hours. If it's so then I'd rather just settle for Samsung or LG.

You know, I don't think anyone's started a G20/G25 owner's thread. Considering you're the only one who owns one, it should probably be you to start it.

Panasonic has rising black levels issue. Samsung has buzzing issue. Pioneer come back please. There was no such as a perfect tv until your Kuros came out LOL. Gotta go with D-Nice on this one, waiting until 2011 to upgrade.

I can't remember how the TV will process it but the end result will be 96Hz. You have to remember that 3D blu-rays are going to 48 frames instead of the the normal 24 (24 frames for each eye = 48 frames). 48Hz X 2 = 96Hz.

A not-so-weird way for the VT2X to play 24p 3D content would be to do it in 120 Hz, each stereoscopic frame repeated 5 times (2 for one eye and 3 for the other).

My guess is that 96 Hz is just for 2D material in 24p. And the 3D glasses may not be able to synch to different frame rates (like 120 Hz for 60p and 96 Hz for 24p).

I guess I could buy at local store with 30 day return. Let see, 30x24=720 hours. Based on last years model, this might be enough to track a trend.

Of course, it would keep me from buying from a forum sponsor and the set might be smoking at the end of 30 days.

That is my guess, and just a guess. Bet the 3D is just the old regular 3:2 pull down at 60 cycles per eye. Follow-on year models will be tooting the 96x2 or higher. Of course, this just assumes a simple model that what works today with both eyes today applies to each eye individually with the sequential frame rate for 3D.

And oh, yes, we really, really mean it this time in new 2011 or later sets- an infinite black panel.

Just ordered a G25 2 days ago and it should be here by the end of the week. Can't wait! Gonna wall mount my Samsung PN50A650 above it for some MLB,NFL Directv multigame viewing and plenty of Xbox 360,PS3 gaming.
