Difference between Elite eZframe and SableFrame?

Take a look at the following links. They have some details... I am also looking for a 120" screen for my Epson HC8100 and need to decide between ezframe and Sableframe. The fabric is exactly the same in both (Cinewhite). Ezframe has better frame and more fabric choices. But, I could not find better pictures or more details on how the Sableframe's frame looks like (other than what's shown in the links below).

Yeah, I am leaning towards the same. The main difference seems to be the tickness of the velvet and the shape of the frame. I don't think I care much for the shape (crown molding vs the other), but I was hoping for better pictures to see difference in the velvet.

May be you can post some pictures once you get your sableframe. I am projecting on to 120" screen of block out material hanging on my wal.

FYI I have a cinema235 Elite Screen which I'm assuming it is similar to the Ezframe and it is not cover in velvet. It is black anodized aluminum and then sprayed with a velvet or suede like material. Just wanted to share that info. It does work great but I think that the material could come off easily while handling the frame.

I called Elite screens today and spoke to their sales department at 877-511-1211 and asked the difference between the SableFrame and EZFrame. I was told that the only difference is the EZFrame is flat while the SableFrame is rounded. I also aske if the velvet material on both frame is the same and the answer was, yes both frames use the exact same velvet material. So it comes down to whether or not you care about the velvet part of the screen being flat or rounded.

Hmm, thats wierd! Their website clearly states "Thicker coated velvet on ezFrame and PrimeVision frame". So, I am not sure I would trust the service rep completely.

Did you end up going with the Sableframe?
I ordered mine through BHphotovideo and it was delivered yesterday. I opened the box, everything looks great, came in without any damage (excellent packing from Elite). I will put it together this weekend.

Definitely! I having someone come over on Saturday to get the HDMI and surround wiring done in the theater room. I'll post some pictures and my opinions on the frame once everything is setup properly.

Currently I am projecting my Epson 8100 on to a blackout curtain (close to 105" diagonal) and the picture looks great. I am hoping that Sableframe would be noticiably better.

I'm in a similar situation I have a homemade framed screen that looks really good(some waves starting after 2 years). I'd like to go bigger and the cost of building a new screen with screen material, wood, velvet etc... will run around $200. For 313.00(shipping included) I could get a 110" SableFrame and not worry about waves occurring and save myself a lot of work too.

I'd appreciate you offering to post pics (thanks) and look forward to your comments.

Ok, I finally assembled the screen and put it up on the wall. I am very happy with the quality of the frame and the screen. Assembly took about an hour. Its not a complex assembly, but the directions that came with the screen are so so at the best.

sunilpg, thanks for all the pics. IMO the screen looks great. I can't see any waves and the velvet border looks really nice. What's your impression from seeing it in person?

There are absolutely no waves. Its tight like a drum. The velvet border is petty decent, not the top quality. Velver border looks great on the wall and does a great job of not reflecting any spillage of light. Over all, I am very happy with the screen.

Thanks Sunil, was the velvet the kind that could come off while handling the frame?

Its a spray-on variety. But, I don't think it would come off that easily. I had to grip it hard at times while fixing the frame and it handled the pressure fie.

Can anyone post some better close ups of the Sable frames? I'd like to get a better idea about the fit/finish quality.

Could you elaborate on any differences in quality compared to the black out cloth material and the Elite Sableframe? I currently have a DIY 110" screen using black out material from the local fabric store (with 1x4" fixed frame wrapped in black velvet border). I would love to know if the elite cinewhite material is a significant improvement.

I am thinking about upgrading from epson's 1080UB to the 8500UB. I as at a local magnolia hi-fi and saw the 8500UB in action. I thought it was quite a step up in overall quality but I'm not sure how much is attributed to the screen. I believe they had a 100" tensioned elite screen.

This is just my opinion with very little experience in screens. I could definitely see the difference between the blackout screen and the cinewhite material, but I don't think it is significant. My decision was very easy as I didn't have a frame with velvet border (which make a huge difference in the look and feel of my room to start with). So, if you already have a frame with velvet border, its very tough to justify spending 3-4 hundred more for the elite frame.

I'm looking at a few of the fixed frames, and I have a question: do the Elite Sable and Ezframes have continuous upper and lower rails, or are they two part rails with a join? If they're 2 part, are you satisfied with that the frame is straight and square?
