Pioneer VSX-517 or Yamaha RX-V363 as an entry level AVR?

I have decided that I do not need 7.1 or even HDMI capabilities in my AVR. For now I have 2.1 system and maybe later I will upgrade to 5.1. HDMI I can just plug directly into TV since I will have no more than 2 sources and my Logitech Harmony remote can handle source switching.

So I have narrowed my choices down to two entry level AVRs:

Pioneer VSX-517
and
Yamaha RX-V363

I think they are older models but that's fine. Also they are 110/220V compatible which is a key factor for me. My sources will be HTPC (HDMI and digital audio out) and satellite box (HDMI and ? for audio out).

Help me pick one! Current users are welcome to post their opinions.

Thanks.

yes, both are discontinued...the 517 is two generations back, the V363 is one.
If the price is right and adjusted for the fact they are discontinued, I'd go with the Yamaha.

Thanks for reply m_vanmeter. Can I ask you why would you choose Yamaha over Pioneer? I have downloaded specs and looks like Pioneer has more functions. Anyway, I am just curious.

Price is not that great but those are multi-region versions that are 110/200V and NTSC/PAL compatible.

with family and friends, I have installed 2 Yamaha receivers with no equipment problems, and one Pioneer 518 which had to be exchanged for another unit. I just have the "personal opinion" that Yamy's are built with a little more attention to detail.

That said, all three receivers have worked fine for 2 years, so either one will work as long as you do not need to decode audio over HDMI.

Because I can't ind Pioneer 819 that's dual voltage and Yamaha 465 is about $120 more than the entry level model. I just simply do not need all the features for my 2.1 speaker system anyway.
