I think the problem is that Boston Rob thinks he himself is a better Survivor than he really is. I agree he is a better Survivor, but maybe not a better player than Russell.
It took Rob a few days to finally realize that maybe holding the Hidden Immunity Idol equals power in the game. He admitted that it wasn't part of the Survivor seasons he played. But that doesn't excuse him taking so long to start figuring it out.
Everyone thought that Russell was burying himself by hunting for the Idol while the entire tribe decided it wasn't worth anything. Russell wan't buying into that and now look where they are.
Russell shifted the game in his favor even if it may be for a short time. Now everyone else in the Villain tribe is vulnerable. Russell firmed up his alliance with Parvarti. Then came Coach.
Coach is just became a potential major swing vote. Last week, he cried that he just wanted love and attention. He stated last night he wants to play with Boston Rob. But Rob doesn't play the game that way. Whether he did it strategically or not (I doubt he did), Russell gave attention to Coach. If Coach ends up alligning with Russell, that is and example of Russell outplaying Rob at this point of the game.
One way or another, the next time the Villains are at Tribal Council somebody besides Russell is going home. The only way to avoid that would be for Parvarti to convince Russell he is safe and not use the idol.
Rob is a tremendous Survivor. But if he is the one voted out when Russell plays the idol, where does that leave him? He has been a part of 3 different seasons and would have a 7th and 2nd place finish along with a pre-jury boot. In this case, he failed to set up the correct alliance and wrose failed to grasp the concept of the immunity idol. I understand nobody likes Russell. He is dirtbag. But if he goes far again this season, is Boston Rob really that much better a Survovor than Russell?
